For everyday wear, I highly recommend platinum jewelry. I had diamond studs in white gold, and apparently my ears developed sensitivity to nickel in that metal. Like @oldfort, I wear my jewelry without taking it off all the time, but had to take those studs out due to swollen, itchy earlobes. My husband went to Costco and got me platinum-mounted diamond studs. No issues with allergy at all! Husband jokes that I have to stay away from hydrogen gas… lol.
Diamond studs
I recently looked at the prices… a caviar classic flap bag costs more than a decent-sized diamond!!!
I have a ring that looks like that, but it’s not Cartier. When I got it many years ago I didn’t know the Cartier one was a thing.
My DIL has that ring from Cartier, and she wears it every day, on her right hand.
We both like to fidget with the rings.
It’s great, and goes with everything.
I have several sets of earrings, a couple of necklaces, and a bracelet from Ed Levin. He died, but his brand is being continued.
I wear these earrings often
I also wear these often, and I have the matching necklace…
While I’m waiting (and waiting . . . . ) for someone to gift me my one-caret-each diamond stud earrings, I occasionally wear my Swarovski crystal earrings that look, under dim light, like the real thing. When I bought them, the salesperson told me to never wear them in the shower, as they would lose their shine. So I only wear them occasionally, and never in the shower!
I say go for it!!! Personally, I like the 2 Lagos pieces. I wear earrings everyday and like bracelets for dress up. Of course, rings are great too! I do not wear a watch. Jewelry is very personal so get what you might enjoy! It doesn’t have to be a lifetime commitment! If you wear it a lot for 5-10 years, you have gotten more than your money’s worth.
I would look for a jewelry designer and have a piece made. For a milestone birthday, H found a designer to create a new diamond wedding ring for me. We even went with the designer to pick out the diamonds in the Diamond district in NYC. It was a fun trip, and I loved the way the ring turned out. I never take it off. The band of the ring is platinum, which the designer recommended.
I’m honestly surprised at all the posts for diamond studs as they can be had relatively inexpensively. I don’t want to take this thread in an unintended direction, but we had a discussion about the value of diamonds on another thread.
If you want a pair of studs, just treat yourself already (but don’t pay too much for them). I don’t have any issue with people spending their money however they want as long as they know what they are/n’t buying.
I only wear jewelry that doesn’t need to be taken off every night. Wedding ring, watch, stud earrings. That’s really it. I do change my earrings every so often, but really they are mostly the same style.
But have fun picking out something to get…
My stud earrings cost more than my my upgraded engagement ring. People told me that I could go with color H or I for studs, but I wanted them to shine.
My suggestion of diamond studs is not about the cost. I love the simplicity and elegance of diamond studs. I can dress it up or down. They look just as good with a pair of jeans as an evening gown.
OP- if you are looking for another “Yurman type” style, take a look at Ripka’s sterling line:
Lots more to look at on her site.
Dresses up, sturdy enough for every day, not so expensive that you’d worry about it.
I am a jewelry super fan- anything antique, particularly art deco; love contemporary as well. Do NOT pay retail for a contemporary style- there are dealers on ebay (some with thousands of transactions and positive reviews) that sell “almost new” pieces (which they typically polish, check the mountings, etc.) at 40-50% off retail. It is harder to verify the value of an older piece but if your city or town has a reputable jeweler, you can often find one of a kind pieces that they have taken in for a trade-up or on consignment.
Have fun with this incredible milestone!
A few weekends ago D and I went to Catbird and got similar bracelets. They are permanently fastened around the wrist (there’s a special link to cut in a medical situation). It’s subtle but it’s meaningful to me: Diamond Snippet Bracelet | Catbird Jewelry
@surfcity - I’d look through this website and pick something unique and wear it every day, something cool to remind me of this milestone - I’m more a bracelet, ring wearer, but I used to wear necklaces.
Diamond stud earrings can be worn every day and suitable for every occasion. My D, DIL and I each own a pair. Mine are set in platinum with screwback studs to make them secure. Of the 4Cs, I feel color is the most important in earrings.
I love that you are treating yourself to something nice!
I like a bangle myself. In fact, now you have me thinking…

I changed my Birthday diamond studs to a drop so I could sleep in it.
I have wanted a diamond tennis bracelet forever but just can’t see it happening with tightwad me. And a diamond solitaire necklace. Nope. I have a fake one, LOL.
Regarding tennis bracelets— my brother gifted his wife with one. Their baby was helping “clean up” and threw it away. They searched everywhere but couldn’t find it.
Oh thank you all for the replies. I went to a department store today to look at some things in person, just to see if I really liked them. Some pieces I liked online I did not like at all in person, so this was helpful. I have to decide if I want one standout piece or a couple of complementary items.
I have some tiny diamonds from my grandfather’s stuff (back when the company gifted tie tacks etc for 5, 10 years of service, even though he was a blue collar worker and never wore a tie) plus my grandmother’s tiny engagement ring. I do not have fond memories of these relatives so I am thinking of putting these diamonds in a pendant for a necklace, hoping the gold ring would defray some of the cost.
I also inherited my mom’s gorgeous platinum wedding set so I should resize that to wear when I want to make a statement.
@ChoatieMom I wear my college ring almost every day. It is gold, with the seal, but no stones so it just looks like a nice everyday ring
The whole looking and considering process has been a lot of fun. My eyes glaze over when DH has to replace his car and drones on and on about all the features and decision points. I think this is the equivalent for me.
