What keeps you focused?

what keeps you focused/motivated to study computer science?
is it the money, career opportunities, etc

How about the fun?

im not a CS major, but if i were, id do it for the dew & cheetos.

and the most righteous cs babes. yowza!

I’m motivated by knowing that CS addresses the sorts of problems that I am interested in, especially those that others don’t necessarily find interesting or even understand. Knowing that CS deals with what makes my academic interests different from, say, your everyday mathematician’s, scientist’s, or engineer’s - or philosopher’s - interests makes me feel like I’ve found my true calling.

Plus, programming is pretty fun sometimes. Also, the money and job opportunities aren’t as bad as some majors.

i concur, sir.

The chicks kept me focused. They were so ugly you had to look at the equations.

But that was MechE, maybe they are hotter in CS.

at UCLA most mechE girls are cute. at least the ones i’ve seen

The only girls I knew in CS were hambeasts.

"The only girls I knew in CS were hambeasts. "

 • Concur.

Is it the sedentary cs lifestyle that leads to the hambeastery?

the cs guys though . . . whoa . . . total hunks.

Perhaps. Or maybe the hambeastery leads to a reclusive, sedentary lifestyle that in turn leads to CS.

Engineering chicks don’t start out tha bad do they?

All hot engineering chicks dropped out after Calculus… Blah!

gpa. money. lack of hot chicks. I was so focused on 1 and 2 that 3 didn’t really hit me until junior year.

In the few CS classes I have taken, the satisfaction I will get from solving problems on my own keeps me focused.

What is a hambeast?

Thanks for the madd propz, gentlemen. We engineering chicks thank you for your loving kindness and support.

The thing that keeps me focused is that I’m in a low-walled cubicle, my computer is in the corner, my back is to the main floor’s primary corridor, and that my boss’s boss’s boss’s desk has a constant direct line of sight to my monitor.
