What keeps you motivated?

What keeps you motivated? I want a 5 on the APUSH AP exam, but I get so turned off when I start reading my textbook for the daily readings and I have to read like the 10 pages each night assigned at least 2-3 times over again to keep it fresh in my mind. That makes me lazy. What keeps you guys motivated for doing tedious tasks like that? (i’m more of a math/science guy) Also, does anyone know any good ways of remembering the information you read in the American Pageant for apush?

Thanks.

Haha…I’m doing APUSH this year as well and I think I’ll end up cramming it all a week before the AP exam. I guess actually underlining the text and writing things down as you read may help, because then you are taking time to think about the material etc…but I feel your pain :)

i make notecards. it’s a pain but it nabbed me a 98.7 on my midterm, thus boosting my 2nd term grade to an A-. previously i had gotten a B+ the first term, and was headed for a B the 2nd term. it works, so i’ll do it.

as for motivation, i just think of my GPA. i got a C+ in French last year, and am not really so hot at it, so i need the other classes to boost it up

I’m in APUSH too. Our class is going to finish the textbook by the end of March, so we’ll have all of April and some of May to study in class. I already have a couple of review books and Barron’s flashcards to study from outside of school.

Try studying outside (obviously while the sun is out). That helps me stay focused while studying. Whenever I try to study late at night, I get tired so quick.

my class also uses the American pageant textbook. If you want to force yourself to actively read the text then I’d recommend you fill in a study guide or something like that as you read. I generally just read the book once and look at some online summaries to get prepared.

For that class, I read the chpts in American pageant and then read an outline before some sort of test.

http://www.course-notes.org/US_History/Outlines/

I’m really pushing myself for a 90+ average… All so that I can exempt 3 days (final exams) xD

Even if I don’t achieve that, I’ll still need to focus on getting a 78+ average this semester to have an overall 90 GPA to get the HOPE scholarship (free tuition to any public GA college).

Well, general tip to be motivated: if you learn it really really well the first time, you won’t have to relearn at another point when it really counts. (for example, if you despise history, you get it out of the way in hs before it is detrimental in college).

For history classes…outlining the text really helps. Then I briefly skim before class, etc, when I have a little bit of free time. Outlining is really tedious, but if you can hit the points your teacher tests on (or at the least, the main ideas) it will definitely help. Then you don’t need to fall asleep reading your text, and can read it in your own “words”.

Another good tip for reading comprehension-do tests online, for example, you’re in ap ush so I’d a search on google, “ap ush study guide” or “ap ush quizzes”…I did basically the same for European history and practically aced my midterm!
Best of luck! (oh and tell a story with the characters/try to imagine it happening today, or think of countries as friends/enemies in hs: “Mexico, why are you so angry at America? Oh yeah, I remember…” )

what’s motivating me? the thought that im 3 months away from no more high school.

i basically pulling off the most phenomenal year of school I’ve had since 7th grade my lowest grade last semester was a 96, and my lowest grade this semester is (so far) also a 96 (my hs gpa is 92).

i have lots of overnight college visits and the like to look forward to, along with spring break and my birthday so hopefully the last half of Feb, march, april, and the first half of may go by quickly.

haha well…freshman and sophomore years i had the outlook that im just in high school just to be here and made ok grades. Now im my junior year im more serious and its because I have a diffrent way of looking at it/motivation. Im a real competitive person, so I had to make it my own. I think of it as a big competition within my class and studying will just make my score go up (rank and grades). Its worked so far…lets just hopes it sticks!

oh…and im finally a junior member! lol
