What Kind of Chance Have I?

Now that the EA app is submitted, and all there is to do is wait - and post - , what do you think?

Taking Discrete Math/Diff Equations/Calc 3 at a local University now

I’d really like to go to MIT, but I realize that these are just stats and that there are many with similar stats. Thanks.

Did anything come out of your 6 years of comp sci research? Your stats look strong.

i think he meant six weeks.

oh right, ya I missed the “last summer” part.

what did u do in comp sci research?

A nonnegative chance.

Thanks for your replies. I did Comp Sci study/research for six years on Saturdays; I learned multiple languages, completed many assigned projects, and most recently created a genetic algorithm during a several-month long project. I’m still going in on weekends. I did seven weeks of research this past summer at a Comp Sci Dept. of a public University.

Academically you look very strong. Your ECs have a lot of apparent fluff (I didn’t know that there were that many different NHS clubs, and if the ones at your school are anything like the ones at mine were, they are nothing but resume-padding fluff with a few service hours or group activities tacked on). On the other hand, the ones you have that aren’t fluff are really solid - nine instruments and an interesting variety of music groups? Six years of comp sci research, and developed a novel genetic algorithm? That’s good stuff there. I don’t know what all of your awards are, and some of them might be good, but I can tell you that NMSFs are a dime a dozen in the applicant pool and that it won’t get you anything.

Without knowing what you say on essays and in the interview and what’s said about you on your recs, it’s a bit hard to say more than that.

I’d say he has a very good shot if his essays are good. His academics are very strong and his musical accomplishments and cs research show passion, do they not? The only think the OP lacks IMO are awards to show that he is actually very good at what he does. To the OP: have you won any awards for your research or music, and have you entered competitions this year like Intel STS?
