<p>What kind of GPA would be the safe zone for Cal? Minimum GPA? This is for a Sociology or Political Science major.</p>

<p>Like they say 3.5 is the magic number. But since polisci is so competitive i’d say 3.7+ and a kickass personal statement.</p>

<p>Well I havent really decided on a major yet but I took a cultural Anthropology course and got a B. So I dont know if I should even continue taking the prerequisite classes for an Anthro major … Its either Poli sci, Anthro, Philos Just looking for best chances as all 3 of these majors interest me</p>
<p>Alright, you’re talking about two different things.</p>
<p>The title of your thread is “cumulative GPA” which would mean all-inclusive, major and non-major courses. The safe zone which would mean you’re pretty much safe unless you completely murdered the concept of a good PS, is 3.9-4.0 (probably a 3.85 though that’s where you start getting into a gray zone of “safeness”). </p>
<p>For your major you should definitely try to get a 4.0 if you are in the social sciences. There really isn’t any reason not to. So I would go for political science or sociology and not for anthro though it might not be competitive (to as you say “be safe”).</p>
<p>PLEASE NOTE that you are talking about being “safe” which means that I am NOT being conservative in my estimates. You will still have a good shot if you are a little below the estimates I listed but certainly not “safe” (though there is never certainty in life as you might have already learned).</p>
<p>Ah… Thank you. I will aim for a 4.0 major gpa in Sociology and around 3.8 to stay competitive. Im planning to go to law school after undergrad and my major really doesn’t matter.</p>
