Just curious, about what others’ experiences were. What are the advantages of a Stanford degree? Is the high price tag really worth it?

High price tag compared to what?
What schools are you comparing it to?

Why ask this question when you haven’t even been accepted…people seem to ask this same question every year on the Stanford, Harvard, Yale, etc forums…

…one should get the “acceptance” in hand before this question is asked because for most of the students applying this coming year and future years the acceptance rate will be even lower than 5.69%…

…after all, Stanford is the hardest elite university to get into in the country (if not the world)…

…by the way, SHYP schools all provide the most outstanding financial package in the country…for those who can get in. Stanford, Harvard, Yale, etc. will open doors that other schools cannot match especially to Wallstreet, highest levels of academia, positions of power in government, law, medicine, and business.

…in addition, Stanford reigns supreme in producing future entrepreneurs in technology fields and future venture capitalists…

…I’m sure you already knew this…but just in case you didn’t…hope this enlightens you.

Adding to what gravitas2 wrote: if you’re a middle class American with normal assets, Stanford will probably be one of your cheaper options. Typically, it’s cheaper than people’s state flagship universities. As gravitas2 already noted, gaining admission is the hardest part about Stanford (and HYP).

At Stanford, you’ll make invaluable business and personal connections with some of the most talented and friendliest people you’ve ever met, some of whom will likely go on to be leaders in Silicon Valley and beyond.

Another cool thing is the copious amount of money. If you have a good idea and can get at least one other student as well as a faculty member to support your idea, then you can get funding from Stanford to see your idea to fruition. Stanford also allows its students to take up to two years off to pursue entrepreneurial ventures.

@gravitas: I have been accepted

@swimmer. Congratulations! Work hard, enjoy, and thrive…whatever you decide to become in the future…enjoy your major of study while at Stanford (study what you love…not what is popular). Enjoy the journey and smell the roses along the way…I know many kids who are still pinching themselves even today doubting how they “got into Stanford” and how they will compete with all the “geniuses” and “prodigies” once they get there…don’t worry about your future job prospects. If you were there for AdmitWeekend and heard the founder of Change.org Ben Rattray give the inspiring closing speech about doing what you love…you will be fine and you will thrive. Enjoy the rest of the summer.

All kinds, especially green doors.
