<p>For arts & sciences?</p>
<p>I’m a Nevada resident, and will probably be majoring in something humanities or social science related. </p>
<p>Due to certain circumstances, my GPA isn’t great, but my SAT scores are well above average (I have a 1340, slanted towards CR, while the UT average is around 1220). </p>
<p>My extra-curriculars are pretty good, I’ve received various awards, and I’m expecting strong recommendations.</p>
<p>Would UT be a match school? Or would I have a hard time getting in?</p>
<p>Care to exaggerate on your extra curriculars… for college of liberal arts, you stand a fairly good chance I would say. Keep in mind the avg sat is skewed big time by the admissions from students in top 10% who can score as low as they possibly want on the SATs but are guaranteed admission despite that. Good essays, recs, and extra currics. will def help.</p>

<p>But my main “thing”, so to speak, is journalism. At my school, it’s considered a class rather than an EC, but I’ve dedicated many after-school hours to the paper. I’ve been editor-in-chief for two years, and have won a good handful of journalistic awards. As a staff, we also win Best Newspaper every year. </p>
<p>How are those?</p>
<p>If your as good a writer as you let on, you should ace those essays. I say you stand a good chance of getting in, but nothing is guaranteed still. But as a writer going for liberal arts, you are in the best possible situation since LA is the easiest school to get into.</p>
<p>Hey! I’m not sure how much you know about UT’s structure, but there are several colleges, each of which contains several departments. Journalism is housed in the College of Communication, whereas most humanities/social sciences are in the College of Liberal Arts. If you think that you might want to major in Journalism, I would recommend listing Journalism (it might be Pre-Journalism on the application) as your first choice major, because it’s lots easier to transfer from the College of Communication into the College of Liberal Arts than the other way around, if you change your mind.</p>
<p>Thanks for the suggestion, but I don’t plan on majoring in journalism. I may consider it as a minor though. Can you minor in it if you’re in CLA?</p>
