in highschool i had low GPA and no EC or anything (2.9-3.0)
2 years of local community college immeadiately, 2.4GPA and lots of W’s. (working in manual labor and living by myself)
Since then 3.8GPA for past 2 years with 16-19 credit hours. I also have built a website and am proficient in two coding languages, and am a research assistant where I write programs for physics simulations.
I am also half African American and Physics major.
I know i have pretty bad stats for high school/CC but I will probably use my essay to talk about how I had a rough childhood and had to overcome myself and turn my life around. Also the reason I am transferring is because the school I am at is local and I came here for convenience, and I want the opportunity to go somewhere and challenge myself and be around different groups of peers, etc.
Anyways some of the schools I am looking at have acceptance rates in the 5-20%, so I am wondering if I fit the profile for those types of schools or if my high school and community college grades will look too poorly on an application.
Looks like you have lots to offer your next institution of learning. it is not easy to work through early hardships. Congratulations on what you have achieved. Where do you live? Does your community college have a transfer advisor? You want to develop a few safety schools that look good to you.
