what looks good????

Hi, I am new to this website. I had a couple of questions?
First off, how good will a political internship look on a college application? (It is a summer internship and I am going from my junior to senior year in high school)
Secondly, if we start our own club in our school, is that impressive to colleges or is it considered elementary?

Thx very much

I’m still a student, so I don’t know how accurate my say could be. However, I think the internship would look amazing and the club would as well. However, I heard that if you start a club late in high school, colleges may see it as a last minute tactic to fill up another line on your college app. However, I think you should do both regardless of what college admissions people think because if you’re truly interested in a field, your passion will shine through.

If you’re talking about public schools, then sure it’ll look good, but not nearly as good as that 4.0/2300 SAT.

If you’re talking holistic admissions with HYPSM, then nothing by itself will look ‘good’ to an admissions officers (except for something like International Math Olympiad Gold Medalist).
It’s all about what you do.
It doesn’t matter if you start a club your senior year. Making a club really won’t help your application much at the HYPSM level. Rather, making the club into something big, making the club positively impact the community in a big way; now that will look good.

Summer internship by itself will not impress HYPSM adcoms as too many people have had internships. Rather, doing something that other people can’t with that internship, or writing meaningful essays about your internship experience; now that will help you and make your activity look ‘good’.
