What Made You Apply to BS in the First Place?

Hey everyone! I (like most of you) am extremely anxious right now, and going through a really really emotionally taxing time… I figured that it might be nice for everyone to look back and discuss how and when this whole experience starts for them! I’ll go first.

I literally didn’t even know there was such thing as the type of BS that you “want” to get into until September. Living in Colorado, boarding school isn’t really a thing! I read a lot of articles online, and put together a list of three schools that I wanted to apply to. I filled out inquiry forms for Choate, Andover, and Exeter: I never actually ended up applying to Exeter for other reasons. At some point ( :)) ) I decided that it might be a good idea to tell my parents about my newfound interest in attending BS, and they took it OK. After my first interview, they were a lot more sure and finally began to believe that BS was not just for legacies and people in the northeast! I ended up applying to nine schools. In summary: everything for me is new! If someone asked me about Choate or Andover or Hotchkiss 8 months ago, I would have had no idea what they were talking about! That’s so strange to think about…

In terms of why I applied: I LOVE to be challenged, love diversity, love being surrounded by people who love to learn (like myself). After reading about these schools, environments like the ones at some of these BSs sounded like my dream! I love challenge, I love struggle, I love that moment of complete confusion when you’re looking at a math problem that you don’t know how to solve: I want to be pushed to my limits! Who doesn’t want a roommate from halfway across the world? Who doesn’t want to tale advantage of their high school’s observatory, or their awesome auditorium?

Anyways: what is your BS story? Have you been waiting for M10 since birth, or did you just find out like me? Why did you apply?
