seriously, how do you answer this question on the application without being cliched? the real reason why most people chose University X is because it has a good program or reputation for the major that he or she chose. what else is there to write?

-good location
-a specific program (ie travel abroad to a country you like)

go to their website and look around. i bet you’ll find many things that are appealing about the school.

It depends on what’s special about the school, obviously…
Brown, for example, has the Open Curriculum, which some students are attracted to. On the opposite end, some students like the more rigid Core Curriculum of Columbia.
You might like the residential college system at X college, or (as mentioned above) the neighboring city. Maybe if you’ve visited, the campus, or maybe it’s something intangible.

You should be able to think of a few reasons for yourself, and it really should go beyond just academics. If the reputation for your major is the only thing that you can think of, it might be wise to reconsider the whole application…

Maybe you went to the school and noticed how focused/laid-back the students were or something, etc.

yeah, I think a personal anecdote from a visit or someone you know who went there would help out.
