What Major and Job might allow someone to work from Home? I am under the impression that a lot of those “Data Entry” jobs saying “Work From Home, make $50/hr” are scams of some sort. What are common positions that might allow someone to work from home and make a decent living (i.e. $40,000/yr+)?

My dad works as a sales manager at intel and primarily works from home, he does have to attend meetings once in awhile, but he likes the flexibility his job gives him… He got a computer engineering major

Are there any others.?

The answer is the same as “which majors are in the most demand”?

If something is in high enough demand then employers will reduce their strict employment requirements such as a conventional office commute.

As such, if you browse the internet for a while on legitimate job websites (not conman “work from home” sites), you will find that most of the telecommuting positions are for professionals who are in demand across the board: Remote programmers, remote pharmacists, self-employed CPAs, contract engineers, etc.

Nobody is going to pay you 50/hr for an entry level unskilled position when India/China exist.

A lot of jobs will allow “teleworking” -where the boss agrees to let you work at home and occasionally come up to the office.

Another one I can think of would be if you started your own online business (don’t necessarily need to be a programmer), with your home as your temporary office. However, you’d need to go out for meetings quite often, and you’d eventually need to hire employees.
