I saw a CMU video on youtube that talked a little about working with computers to try and read brain patterns to solve disorders such as autism. I was just wondering what type of major would encompass these things and was also wondering if its possible to change colleges at CMU, say I want to go from Biology to Engineering. Do I need to reapply? or just be admitted to both the summer before freshman year.

I could be totally wrong, but perhaps the major you’re looking for is something related to Biomedical Engineering (BME)?

If you get admitted to MCS then you won’t automatically be in CIT. You’d have to do a transfer from being housed in the one college to the other. I don’t think from MCS to CIT it’s that big of a deal, just be sure to take an intro engineering course your freshman year if you’re thinking about switching so you won’t be off the course track.

Also, don’t think it would be biomedical engineering. Perhaps something about cognition science or stuff like that? Your best bet would be to look through the research of various professors at CMU and see who’s doing projects and what departments they belong to.

You might also be able to do this through the School of Computer Science with a minor in Psychology. I agree though, finding out which department the research comes out of would be your best bet. Even better see if you can e-mail the prof whose doing the work and see what advice he can give you.
