What major should I choose if I want to go into Finance and Accounting?

What major should I choose? I also plan to either double-major or duel-degree with a more science-oriented subject such as chemistry.

i recommend AEM major for finance and accounting, but why do you want chemistry if you're going into finance?

I would do CAS Econ. It is arguably a more versatile and respected degree than is just accounting or AEM.

I just feel like only doing accounting may be too general. I thought it may be better if I had specialized skills, such as engineering, to back me up in case jobs in accounting and finance are hard to find.

is it possible to do operations research or something like electrical engineering and go into finance/i-banking?

Yes, operations research seems to be geared right toward things like finance and I-banking. 123orange, maybe that would be a good in-between? You don't want to dual-degree, that will take at least an entire extra year more than likely since you'll have to satisfy both colleges requirements. In engineering you could do operations research + another major, in CAS you could do econ and another major...I'm not sure if CALS has any science-y majors or not. But you'd probably be significantly more attractive if you went on for a graduate degree in something rather than dual-degree in two completely unrelated fields (IE, if you like chemistry, you could conceivably major in Chemical engineering and then spend 1 extra year to get a Masters of Engineering in Operations Research, focusing on financial engineering). Or just an undergraduate degree in operations research would be more science-y and would also give you finance-related jobs right after undergrad.

If you are interested in science/banking/finance--Operations Research would be the way to go! You also could do another engineering major, then stay on for another year and get a Masters in Operations Research...lots of options.

i've gotten mixed answers about this, but can you go into a finance/banking career from ILR? I've heard yes as long as you take a few finance classes outside of ILR...

Yes u can get into a finance/banking career from ILR. Ive actually heard that u can land a solid finance job from any major as long as u have a high GPA.

It sounds to me like Operations Research sounds the best for u followed by AEM.

Hmm depends on what you are interested in...
AEM, PAM, Hotel, CAS Econ are all good possible majors and even ILR. Try to look at the requirements at each school to see whcih one interests you the most them apply for that one. Arts is great but is also a big school, ILR and Hotel will probably give u a more personal feel. Good luck
