Maybe I am looking in the wrong place, but does University of Chicago not have a major in architecture? I was looking at the list of majors and could not find it…
What is the closest thing to it?
Thanks!

Architecture is almost a specific kind of engineering, so no, there is no major for it at the University of Chicago, which is a liberal arts school.

There is lots of interest in architectural history and in urban design at Chicago, but nothing remotely approaching an architecture major.

Go to Northwestern. Chicago is a fabulous city in which to study architecture.

Chicago used to have a list of majors it didn’t offer. Architecture, of course, made the list.

[Chicago: Non-Majors](Chicago: Non-Majors)

If you are interested in Chicago but want to pursue architecture too, your best bet would be to pursue visual arts or something related and then get a M.Arch. Only 56 colleges offer architecture at the undergraduate level, and neither Chicago nor Northwestern is among them.

[NAAB: Schools Database](http://www.naab.org/schools/search.aspx?searchType=A)

That list would be way more fun if it had crazy majors on there instead of listing the regular old majors the university doesn’t have.

Supposedly Rice is good for architecture. My cousin also graduated from DePaul and went to MIT for graduate architecture of some sort, and I don’t think DePaul offers architecture either. So you don’t really have to major in it for undergrad.

I would suggest Notre Dame for architecture if you don’t mind the Catholic part of it. It has a really great problem which includes going overseas for an entire year to study with your class.
