What majors do AP Statistics and AP Calculus AB&BC prepare you for?

Individually, what majors do each AP Statistics and AP Calculus AB&BC prepare you for? Which ones should I choose to pursue, for what college majors and please explain! (Please include which one is better for pre-med or engineering as well)

Both will prepare you for almost anything and nothing. Almost anything in that understanding stats will help in every part of life and anything that involves any research at all (humanities or sciences). Calc uses with respect to college majors are slightly more limited (in that there are a fair few that it won’t directly touch (including many humanities), but won’t hurt you in terms of developing problem solving skills. Calc is essential for both pre-med & engineering, so you will take it sooner or later, and stats will definitely help with both.

Probably the question you want answered is: which majors require courses equivalent to these?’’

All engineering, computer science, and physical science majors require significant amount of calculus – equivalent of BC if not more. Business and economics majors typically require one class with calculus (Calc AB) if not more. Students who do economics undergrad with the goal of preparing for graduate school do a lot of calculus. Increasingly biological science students need one calculus class.

Statistics is required in business and economics heavily. It is also used by anyone who does research, though I don’t think many social science/education kind of undergrads have started requiring a class like that. Graduate students in these fields do statistics classes. Most engineering and computer science programs require one statistics class.

One thing with AP Stat is that it is not calculus based. Most engineering programs require their students to take a calculus-based statistics class and thus AP Stat does not count (it is like Ap Physics 1 and 2 in that sense).
