What Majors Would I Take For These Careers?

These are just a few career ideas I have and don’t really know what the major is for these careers. And I know number 7 is a little vague but it will help me out tremendously! thank you for your time!:)</li>

<p>To be a “weatherman”, major in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology (a communications minor would not hurt). </p>

  1. Metereology, atmospheric science, or earth sciences. Most weather announcers are actually meteorologists.
  2. Depends on what you want to do there. If you want to work on their movies, you can major in animation or art and specialize in digital art and animation. But Disney and Pixar employ people across a wide range of fields - they need accountants and HR managers, too.
  3. Depends on what you want the company to be. You could do anything. In fact, it might be better *not* to major in business, but to develop a skill that you can charge other people money for. Lots of artists and writers freelance, and people in all kinds of fields start consulting firms in anything.
  4. Doesn't matter. What matters is your skill and talent. One of my friends from high school is actually a cruise director for a major cruise firm, and he studied film and television production in college.
  5. Also doesn't matter, but art with a concentration in sculpture would be an obvious choice.
  6. Doesn't matter. You can take Spanish classes in any major, and develop fluency through study abroad and then working there or taking a Fulbright after college. Spanish would be an obvious choice.
  7. A lot of different things. The most obvious choices would be engineering or computer science, but you can have a hand in developing innovative technology in a lot of ways. For example, big tech firms like Facebook and Google hire sociologists and psychologists to do user experience (UX) testing of their tools to make sure that people can use them and enjoy using them. Statistics is another major that can help you out - as long as you supplement with classes in programming and machine learning.
  8. Literally anything. That more depends on the job you do. Some careers are more likely to lead to six-figure salaries, like management consulting (which you can do with any major), actuary (actuarial science, math, statistics), engineering (eventually), finance (business/finance but also statistics or math), corporate management, corporate law (but you'd have to go to a very tip-top law school), and medical school. Mathematicians and economists also can make six figures earlier in thier careers. But there are also a lot of careers where you might not start out at six figures but can get there after some years, like professors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants.

And then of course there are the lucky people in many fields. Most English or film studies majors will probably not make six figures, but Shonda Rhimes studied these majors at Dartmouth. Natalie Portman majored in psychology at Harvard, but by then she’d already starred in several movies (she starred in the Phantom Menace when she was still in high school).
