<p>I’m just wondering, for people applying to summer programs, e.g. science research, by what criteria does someone judge an essay when they make assessments like “her application was great” or “his essay sucked”? What exactly makes one applicant’s essay better than another’s, especially when they’re responding to the same topic (e.g. why do you want to do research)?</p>
