what makes harvey mudd special?

I am curious because its students have high SAT scores

What makes Harvey Mudd special? In a word: People. And by people I don’t just mean students. I mean faculty and staff as well. With the exception of a very, very few, most professors are very friendly, amicable, approachable, willing to help (wishing to help actually), and very devoted to the students. Most of them work even harder than we do to give us a good education.

As for the students themselves, they are also very nice and friendly. We may have high SAT scores and grades, but we are a very interesting bunch. There is a diverse set of interests here (music, sports, partying, video games, etc…), with everyone having one thing in a common: a passion for math, science, and technology. Almost everyone is helpful and sweet, and we look out for each other.

And in the purely academic sense, Harvey Mudd is arguably one of the best schools in the nation to do undergraduate work in science. Professors and classes are excellent, and since there are no graduate students here, research opportunities are available to all students.

Also special is the clinic program in which upperclassmen work together in small groups and to solve an actual problem given to them by a corporation related to their major. Info about that here:

If you have any more specific questions about anything, feel free to ask.
