are people always hanging out in the hallways going crazy with loud music on? do people have parties in their dorm rooms or what? (are you even allowed to have parties in your room?)

I stayed with a friend in his pitiful little dorm in Jester once… and it seems to me that it doesn’t really matter what you do as long as it doesn’t involve (loud) drinking, (loud) music, or (loud) sex.

haha i see…are there actually people on each floor to keep things under control?

What makes Jester loud, in my opinion, is the lightness/thinness of the doors. Any sound, be it a doorslam or a hushed conversation, is audible in the rooms.

I also think that even if the walls and doors were thick, Jester would be relatively loud because there are so many people in it and so many of them are freshmen.

jester is actually pretty quiet on the floors most of the time. people do get loud on a daily basis, but the main noise annoyances are:
- the bathroom door is LOUD when it closes.
- the bathroom echoes, so if you get a room behind it, you can hear everything inside of that bathroom.
- the chairs they give you weigh about 60 pounds, so people just drag them across the floor. everyone above, below, and next to you can hear when that happens.

usually the people on your wing are at least people you say hi to every now and then, so if you need to study and they’re being loud, they’ll probably shut up if you ask them to.

and to answer your question about people keeping things under control, it depends on your RA. some love the power, some just want to be liked. the mentality on my floor is that this is where we live. everyone is responsible for keeping it clean/reasonably quiet. there haven’t been any issues on my floor that needed an RA to be resolved.

ah i see…thanks

i currently live in jester and its really not that bad.
there are sometimes loud music and it really isn’t to the point where it bothers me.
but most of the time i find it pretty quiet.
- lbs321 is right the bathroom doors tend to slam.
- at orientation i stayed right by the bathroom you can sometimes hear the hand dryer go off which got pretty annoying.
and it really does smells like pee in jester. but not all parts.
your lucky if u get jester east 5th floor, since its the newest remodeled floor. its very nice.

i hear jester east is usually where athletes stay…is that true?

yeah
5th floor is the football players
4th floor is the basketball players

can you choose to be in east or west then?

i live in the room across from the bathroom. we actually duct taped the lock shut and it muted the door, but there is one person on the floor (not the RA or cleaning crew) that keeps taking it off for some unknown reason :(

you do not get to pick between east or west, but you probably want to live in west. they have an extra curtain for the shower. rooms are identical.

and the 4th and 5th floors are not entirely dedicated to athletes, but if you don’t have a 6 pack and aren’t 8 feet tall, you’re out of place.

curtain? so other showers are just open?

two curtains vs. one curtain on the showers.

jester west has two curtains. one creates a little dressing room for you. jester east does not have that extra curtain.
