On the SSAT I got a 93 percentile overall and a 92 percentile for gender-overall. I’m wondering what matters more, if anyone has any faint idea about that, it would be really appreciated to alleviating my stress
It depends on the school or program. Are you trying to get into boarding school? I doubt an AO will see much difference between the 92nd and 93rd percentiles. Admission is going to come down to other factors.
I’m applying to 5 schools the most competitive is Andover. I understand that my score is not the only factor. What I meant by alleviating my stress is more of reducing the things I need to worry about. Do you believe the 92 and 93 difference will matter much?
I don’t believe it will matter at all. I’m not an expert on private boarding schools, but there is a lot more to it than SSAT scores.
Of course, I am also working on my essays. But since you are here, I have also been thinking about this. I am a very well rounded student, however my ECs are not too strong. I started playing the violin this fall, I play soccer and basketball, and I do extra advanced math outside of school. Up until I found this website, I was convinced this was okay. But I looked around and found the stories of many people with 5 times as many ECs as me. As if I needed more apprehension. One last thing: Do you think the fact that I need most of the financial aid (around 7000 is how much my family can dish out to support me) will hurt my chances at some of these schools? Specifically Andover, who says they are need blind, but I am a bit skeptical of that bold statement. Thank you so much in advance.
Because you can only control your own application, you do not need to worry one whit about anyone else or their accomplishments or how you compare. Let all that go. There is no significance at all to a one-point difference on any standardized test for anyone. You can let that go, too. Needing significant financial aid, however, does put your application in the smaller, more competitive pool at all need-blind schools. However, because you can’t control this either, once again, let it go. Focus on putting together the best application you can, then go out and play. That’s all you can do.
alright! Noted, thank you all so much!
Obviously, I meant “all NON-need-blind schools.”
yeah that was understood! Thanks again
