I have been slacking off my freshman and sophomore years. I have 2.0 gpa. In my next two years i will be taking AP Macroeconomics, AP US History, AP Calculus, AP Computer Science as well as IB Higher Level Physics and IB Higher Level Mandarin.

What Must I do(Grades, Clubs, Athletics, etc.) in my next two years in order to get accepted at Rutgers?

Aim for straights A’s. The GPA they see on your application is the combined GPA from 9th to 11th grade; because they only see a part of your senior grades, your senior GPA plays no importance.

Also, do really well on the SAT/ACT. It often favors students with low GPA.

Extracurricular activities don’t matter at all if your GPA/test scores aren’t so impressive. The way many schools handle the admission process is they put GPAs and test scores of all applicants into Excel, and make a cut off line. For students who are below the cut off line, the admissions office will flat out reject them without even looking at the rest of their application.

you should get 2000+ sat scores to offset that low GPA.

Also I am Indian and can speak 3 different languages. Also if i change my math course to IB Standard Level Math will it have an effect? also does my ability to speak several different languages as well as my ethnicity have an effect on whether i will get into Virginia Tech?

Alright, hold on. Before you say anything further, ask yourself whether you can really handle all these courses. The problem is not how many AP/IB courses you can take; the real question would be can you improve your GPA with these multiple IB courses?

Taking a tough course and getting C+ or B in it looks a lot worse than getting an A in regular, so keep that in mind. Don’t take IB or AP unless you’re CONFIDENT that you will get a B+ or an A. Junior year is also the toughest year in high school for many, so you have to be realistic with yourself.

Also, if you want to get into Virginia Tech, why are you on Rutgers forum?

bring your gpa up to a minimum 3.2 and get a min 1100/1600 SAT and you will most likely get into SAS. IF you want engineering, pharmacy, business you need atleast 3.6 gpa and around 1150/1600. Pharamacy students usually have an avg 2000/2400 sat score.
