Anyone else see this was a catastrophe waiting to happen when they announced Leno’s change to primetime? I don’t really watch late night talk shows anymore, but even I could tell that was just a bad decision. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Will Conan move to Fox? I just might have to turn on Letterman to see what he has to say about it.

I HATE Letterman, so that was never a choice. But, I didn’t really care for Conan or Jimmie either. They seemed too nervous or silly. So, although I like Leno, and in fact had all sorts of hopes that I’d magically become a non-night owl, I actually just gave up all late night talk shows. I’m happy to hear that Leno may come back to his 11:35 hour, but I feel badly for Conan. I think this whole mess started when Letterman admitted to extramarital affairs, so he got press. Then I think there was some other reason why people started watching Letterman for some silly reason, and that was that.

Here’s what I hoping: Leno at 11:35-12:05, then Conan 12:05=12:45. then Jimmie. But who cares about me…I’m just a viewer.

I always enjoyed Jay Leno but thought it was a big mistake. To me that type of show ‘fit’ late night after the news, but for prime time I prefer ‘scripted shows’. I think I watched it maybe twice after they moved him to prime time, and I probably watched him most nights when it was after the news. I can’t stand Conan and nor can my husband, never could understand why they moved him to Leno’s slot. Not a big Letterman fan either (though I did watch him last night - did anyone else see the ‘Hanes’ bit - cracked me up). I have been going to bed earlier sometimes, so I guess that is a good thing. I do quite enjoy the Scottish guy (can’t think of his name) but he is a bit too late even for me.

Scottish guy = Craig Ferguson

I stopped watching all of the late night guys ages ago. I might catch a Top Ten list or Headlines (does Conan still do ‘in the year 2000’?), but that’s pretty much it. The only one I watch is Ferguson, because the way he does his show appeals to me more than the other guys.

I not a Conan fan at all. Used to watch the opening monologue for Leno after the news, but now going to bed earlier. Sometimes Letterman if I happened to have that channel on. I never understood the Conan “thing” he’s just to frenetic for me for late night and not my type of humor. If Jay comes back post local news, I’ll probably watch late night TV again.

Have a major crush on Craig Ferguson.

Once Ted Koppel left Nightline, I’d go back and forth between Leno and Letterman. I like Letterman better and once Conan moved into that slot, it was all Letterman, all the time. I really liked Conan late night, but when he moved up an hour, it just didn’t work for me, and Jimmy Fallon was horrid the few times I tried to watch it (hence, I was able to discover my new crush!). I did watch the Leno show if there was nothing else on at nine that I liked, which was most nights, but it never really clicked. There were some bits that were funny (liked the guy who wrote songs about singles adsm especially the one about "he’s in a gay bar, but he’s not gay), but mostly the schtick fell flat. The 10 at 10 segments mostly didn’t work. The driving challenge was mildly entertaining, I guess. The best part is that it was something easy to dip in and out of, as desired.

If I had to pick a late night show, I’d definitely pick Letterman, but like I said, I really don’t watch anymore other than occasionally trying to check in on a top ten list.

To me, it just shows how out of touch NBC is with their programming. I also don’t see how a 30-minute show would work. Can anyone else think of a 30-minute talk show that was successful?

I liked Leno on late night and watched him most nights. I never did understand the idea of moving him to a show every night in prime time - I think I watched it maybe twice. Just not the type of show I enjoy in that time slot (which is 9pm where I live), certainly not every night. I prefer the ‘scripted’ shows I guess. I don’t enjoy Conan at all and nor do my husband or son. Couldn’t believe they moved him into the time slot. Not a great fan of Letterman either though more tolerable than Conan (though I did watch part of it last night - anyone else see the “Hanes” bit? cracked me up). If they move Leno back into the after news time slot I think I might watch him again. I have enjoyed Craig Ferguson the couple of times I have caught his show but it is a bit late even for me.

Can’t stand Letterman or Conan.

I can just watch Leno on Hulu these days.

I miss Johnny Carson…

^^ Haha - yes, Johnny Carson was way better than any of ‘the replacements’.

Conan’s just not funny. The material isn’t funny and his delivery makes it worse.

Craig Ferguson is naturally funny so they should move him up in time so more people can watch him.

I don’t think Letterman is that great but he’s better than Conan.

Jey Leno’s good but it seems as if he needs better writers for his current show. Some people forget that a lot of it’s about the writers - not just the host.

Fortunately, I go to bed before they come on except for about one day/week and even then don’t pay much attention to the TV and don’t really care that much about any of their shows anyway.

I’m just curious - why do most talk show host sit on the right side of the stage, and the guests on the left?

Conan isn’t funny, he is too mean spirited. And Letterman hasn’t been funny for years.

I love Jimmy Kimmel and Jay Leno.

I find Letterman to be a really good interviewer – Leno really is not so good at that part of the job. Letterman is particularly good with political interviews, I find sometimes that his stuff is more worthwhile then the news media.

I just don’t get Conan - I don’t enjoy him at all, do not think he’s funny.

Leno tends to bore me, especially the new show.

Letterman, as pointed out above, can be a really good interviewer. His monologues can be hit or miss. I find him the most entertaining of the three, but he’s lost something over the years.

LOVE Craig Ferguson, the man is hilarious.

Love Craig Ferguson too. Is he drunk all the time or is that just his shtick? Either way, he’s hilarious. I love how he talks to “you” like a someone cornering you in the corner pub and bending your ear.

Ferguson is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. But, yeah, sometimes his delivery is like a friendly drunk. A cute, charming friendly drunk you’d consider taking home from the bar … oops, my crush is showing!

The only late night talk show I watch is Jon Stewart. Looking forward to seeing him LIVE next month!

I watch Jimmy Kimmel too. Big fan of Uncle Frank and Guillermo (love his laugh). And who could forget Jimmy’s ex, Sarah’s ode to Matt Damon. ROTF

I liked the first part of the show, but could never stand Leno interviews. I couldn’t help seeing them as “psych evals”.
