What obstacle should i talk about in my essay?

I’ve had mostly obstacles dealing with family. I have three older half sisters(mom’s side) that lived with their dad. Two of which only graduated from high school. The third one came to live with my parents and me but ran away to Mexico and got pregnant when i was in 1st grade (she came back though… with a kid.) The situations made my parents lose trust in me and made me push harder even though i didn’t do anything. My parents aren’t citizens and my dad lost his job when i was in 9th grade (I don’t know if it’s approptiate to talk about immigration.) An obstacle outside of family was switching instruments in 7th grade and actually becoming good at it. And the most recent thing that has happened to me is being in a car wreck with 5 other band people right before a football game that we had to play during halftime in. I don’t know which would be more interesting. Any advise would be helpful.

any sort of help???

Personally, I would talk about my family situation, but only since I highly value family relationships. My friend, who is not a legal citizen, wrote about the struggles she has to face when going to college… since well, options are limited for illegal immigrants. I also know a handful of other people who have wrote about similar situations in their essays in past years and have done exceedingly well, so I don’t think it would be a bad idea to talk about your parents (if that’s the only thing steering you away from talking about them).

Write about the one that you grew most from/matured from/became a better person.

Though the immigration story can be really impacting, I feel the instrument story may show your character better and is more characteristic of what I read in successful essays. If you can merge the accident and instrument story together, you’re in an even better place. Both are band related, so maybe it’s possible.

Remember, what I say is not 100% true/admissions law (as is a ton of the stuff on CC).

I would say stick with the family.
