I was on gardenweb way back when. Other than CC, I spend time on tripadvisor when I’m planning a trip but not when I’m not. I’m in a few groups on FB but don’t post very often. Otherwise, that’s it. I’d love to find another forum that pulls me in. ODD tells me I’d like reddit but I haven’t found the love the couple times I’ve stopped by.
My favorite over the years, although they wax and wane based on my kids I suppose and I currently visit pretty much none of them: Disboards to learning the most about Disney strategy, flyertalk to get there the least expensive way, Tugbbs to find the best places to use my timeshare mainly at Disney, fatwallet forums during my CVSing days to save money for Disney, and slickdeals for the same! It actually was not all Disney but I guess travel in general.
I miss Gardenweb. On FB, a HS group, son’s parents group from his university, and a private medical group. A few family members post on FB or Twitter. We have a very active professional group.
I MUST join Bogleheads. I’ve let fidelity manage some of my accounts but they push annuities and I really have no excuse to not educate myself.
PS. I’m editing to add some cooking sites. I have failed to make good looking ruggelah in the past, but I saw a demonstration of how to make the crescent shapes, and last night I made my first presentable batch!
I’m on FB, Instagram, and Twitter, but don’t consider those forums since I don’t really post much outside of a private FB group. I have never participated in any other forums like this, but continue to gravitate to the Parent Cafe long after both kids have finished undergraduate and graduate programs. I just find all kinds of good & interesting information here. When I quote it to kids, D will ask “are you still doing that?”, but they listen to what I share about travel advice, etc. knowing it comes from a generally credible source.
Aside from here, I’m on Facebook everyday and also ServiceAcademyForum. There are also crafting blogs that I like to follow.
I used to follow a few homeschooling groups but now that I’m done homeschooling, I no longer participate in those sites.
An economics forum and my favorite college basketball team’s forum are the only other two I look at.
I do filter through a number of podcasts and I am always searching for a good one to add to my shortlist of ‘go to’ podcasts.
I actively participate on Airline Pilot Central (specifically airline pilot forums). It’s alternately funny, interesting, informative, abusive and cringeworthy. Anonymous forums tend to bring out the worst in some people, but most of the time it’s worthwhile reading.
I am part of a secret FB group of middle-aged women. I also visit The Knot forums. I joined the group looking for advice about a specific part of my D’S wedding. The people there are just awful. Very cliquey, narrow, judgmental, and petty. I feel like someone needs to help out hapless brides looking for advice. I do admit to occasionally provoking the habitues.
A “secret” FB group or a “private” FB group?!
Secret.
I like to read Fodor’s forums… their Fodorite Lounge can be a source of frustration and inspiration all at once. I’ve met people from there and have made some nice irl friends. I also post trip reports and go there for my travel inspiration.
When kids were younger, I was another dedicated DISboard’er. Not so much now. Sports boards for the latest. Primetimer TV (used to be ‘Television without pity"?) for tv show recaps or others’ reactions or just to catch up when I don’t watch.
