Just curious what other forums you frequently visit? (assuming this is allowed?). I really enjoy the serendipity of the CC parent cafe. It seems to be filled with knowledgeable, polite, and generous posters, just the kind of group of friends I would enjoy in person. Most other forums I visit are typically question specific (financial, consumer reviews, travel). I try to stay away from Facebook as a forum alternative. Probably my most visited other forum is tripadvisor, but even that one tends to be location specific and concentrated both before and after a planned vacation. And you?
Disboards. We generally go to Disney every other year, and in the meantime, there is the Community Board to talk about other stuff.
Your basic social media sites may not be considered forums, but that’s it for me now: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. I do have a few Facebook groups that I belong to that hone in on some special interests.
Are forums as active as they used to be? For my interests, I prefer following individual people of interest in my areas of interest - like decorating, gardening, exercise, etc. Then I learn and see through their social media postings, instagram stories and their blogs.
I just recently discovered the Parent Forums on CC, it’s a wonderful distraction from my work. Sometimes I was on a conference call while lurking CC :-).
Apparently i created an account in 2017 but I didn’t know i had an account, until this year when i was anxiously waiting for college application results to come in from the colleges DD applied. So i only looked at College and University forums. I think my first post here was in University of Michigan when the kiddo got accepted. She didn’t go but it was fun watching all the excitement, and of course the UC forums. Love the UCs champions they were extremely helpful!
The only other social media i frequent is FB.
As an avid photographer, my go to photography forum is “Photography on the Net” (POTN). Regardless of the subject, this is the best designed forum I’ve ever seen. If CC is designed with a similar sophistication and user friendliness, I often wonder what it could become with so many folks interested in all things college.
My only other forum is Facebook, but I use it primarily to support my photography addiction. Just about the only other reason for using Facebook is my kid’s college parents forum.
Besides CC, only serviceacademyforums.com but not so much now that kiddo has commissioned. I’ve been saying for years that I need to leave this site as well, but I have real friends here, so I stay even though I’m not as active due to this horrible format.
My three other fav forums are a music forum, a RE forum, and a fantasy football social media thing. I belong to GoodReads but my reading fluctuates so much lately I don’t visit there much.
CC is the only forum board I frequent on a regular basis. Travel Boards when I’m traveling.
I’m on an active running forum and also some groups on facebook for special interests. Otherwise- Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn
Bogleheads.
Facebook, Instagram (mostly to follow artists and post art), Goodreads, Tripadvisor when I’m going somewhere, sometimes I review local restaurants. Houzz occasionally, but rarely post.
Flyertalk, as I spent 25 years traveling 120k miles/100+ hotel nights per year.
DPR for photography gear
Audi forum for my new-to-me used car
I think I posted once to FB, about 8 years ago. 3 lifetime tweets.
I was active on a remodeling forum but they were taken over by Hauz and got even harder to use than the new version here!
I mostly use Facebook to keep up with faraway friends. Never used instagram but it’s the medium a friend has chosen to share something important and ongoing in her life so I may need to join.
Mr Money Mustache. Great info on financial matters, from dollar store finds to investing to what the latest CC bonuses are.
This is the only forum where I actually have an account. I read Bogleheads, but I have no account. I don’t have any media presence at all - no facebook, instagram, etc. Maybe when I retire I will start. I also check out Houzz occasionally.
I’m on Trip Advisor every day to see if I can offer any advice to tourists. Some of the “destination experts” are often rude - telling people they’re making mistakes or insulting their choices. I usually just try to actually answer the question! Also occasionally pop by city data and maybe learn something new myself.
I’m on Facebook daily but only have a couple of dozen friends - including relatives. So a small pool.
Previously dot tv to get insight into my shows; seldom comment though.
The boards for one of my device games because people gem ahead and tell others what to be prepared for.
The few times I’ve been on a cruise, I live on Cruise Critic.
A Broadway theatergoers forum.
I used to read YFMB. Yahoo changed the format, and the forums died. I occasionally read the slim postings on the boards of the companies whose stocks we own. There is a a professional forum I read but don’t post on.
Years ago I love the Cooking Light forums but the magazine abruptly dropped its community a while back. It was hard to lose communication with “friends” and have no way to find out where they are.
Similarly it’s disappointing here when a regular poster goes AWOL and I never find out why the suddenly stopped frequenting CC.
A homeschooling forum (even though I’m all done; good people and discussions) and travel forums as needed.
