What other schools should i look at? / Other small questions

STATS

From MA, just north of Boston in a suburban town.

Unweighted GPA: 3.85
SAT: 2010 (1370 CR+M)
SAT IIs: Will be taking US History and Math I in the fall
ACT: debating taking the SAT in sept and paying the late fee, but the nearest center is 25-30 minutes away. i could take them in october, but i’m afraid i won’t get scores back in time for early action
Class Rank: unknown as of yet, but assuming in the top 10% (class of approximately 180 people)
Courses: Take 8 classes per year. 4 honors classes every year so far. Took two APs last year: APUSH (4) and Chem (2…my teacher kinda stunk but i did really well in the class itself)
Senior Courses: Anatomy and Physiology, AP Spanish, Honors Brit Lit, AP Psych, Honors Civics and Government, Graphic Design, Microsoft Publisher, Honors Probability and Statistics
ECs: we don’t have many clubs at my school, but…
Students against Destructive Decisions (4 years),
Alliance Against Racism and Violence (4 years…2 years as an officer: 1 year as treasurer, either president or vice president this year)
Peer Assistant Leadership (2 years)
National Honors Society (running for an officer position this fall)
Part-time job as a Guest Services Representative at a Movie Theater / Furniture Store (look up Jordan’s Furniture, it’s a long story haha) 20-30 hours/week

Recommendations: Coming from my AP US History teacher, a Spanish teacher, and a guidance councilor that has worked with me personally a lot throughout my 3 years of high school so far. should i maybe consider one more?

Possible essay topic: rough synopsis - how i’ve always been like the bleeding heart of my family, always the sympathetic/compassionate one, and how that lead to me being bullied as a kid, but later on turned out to be a gift, making me realize both that i love helping people and that’s why i want to do psychology, and i’m very accepting of others regardless of their backgrounds, which is why i want to go to [insert college name here],

financial aid doens’t have to be stellar, my parents said if there’s anything they could ever give me as their kid is a good college education.

anybody have any suggestions? so far i’m looking at:

Amherst College (BIG reach)*
Vassar College (pretty big reach)*
Boston College (reach)
Fordham University*
Providence College*
Boston University
Stonehill College*
Bates
UMass Amherst / UMass Dartmouth (safeties)
*visited

help me out please! starting to get a little stressed and wondering where else to look haha

if you need any more info let me know!

Also, I should add that I’m looking to stay in the New England and New York area.
Preferably a small-to-middle sized school (anything below 10,000) in either an urban or suburban area.

got some wonderful suggestions from poi! anybody else willing to offer some suggestions?

Clark U in Worcester, Union College (NY),

You could definitely get into some of the top schools that offer ED if that is what you’re looking for. What do you want to study ?!

I would add in Holy Cross and possibly Connecticut College. They have different vibes but they are both very good.

i’m looking into psychology. it’s something i’m really passionate about, enjoy, and could totally see myself doing it.

i will definitely look more into these. i was considering holy cross but wasn’t sure. maybe i’ll go visit?

thank you to everyone who posted so far! :]

Clark is especially good in psychology.

You seem to have a very good list thus far. Don’t know if you really need to add others.
Could look at U of Hartford & maybe Fairfield U.

All well and good. But if you are truly interested in psychology or the like, you’re talking grad school. Will your parents be able to fund that as well? If not, consider the bigger picture.

I’d throw UMASS Amherst into the mix. It could easily save you 150K over some of your other options and 150K would go a long way toward grad school.

I’d also take the ACT if I were you. Some score better on that test (like my son). A 32 would probably be the magic number (given your G.P.A.) at Boston College.

definitely good points made, ctyankee! i was actually just thinking about that this afternoon.

say, for example, if i took the ACT on october 23rd…early action is due november 1st. would it be possible to send in the application and send ACT scores at a later time? i’m just trying to figure out if it’d be worth it at this point

The answer is yes, that’s how it’s done. The ACT will be reported to EA schools before they make their EA decisions.

Whether it’s worth it or not is hard to say. I guess it depends on how busy your fall schedule is.

Don’t feed the ■■■■■■.

Surprised you have bu and bc but not Northeastern. That should be on your list.

Here is a good list based on stats:

Amherst College
Vassar College
Boston College
Northeastern University
Providence College
Boston University
Bates
Colgate

Dont waste your time applying to Umass schools. They are horrible.

^ and this informed opinion is based on what?
