What path should i take, ACT or SAT?

Let’s keep this short.
A HS junior in San Diego,CA–surrounded by “talented and smart” Asians and whites

October SAT(first try):
M770
CR590
W630
Essay8–overall 1990

ACT(practice with the actual ACT(April ACT test)):
Eng 34
Read 30
Math34
Sci33–overall 33

Here’s the question: which path should i keep taking to get a good score(2250/35)?

*I am not an English native speaker so SAT CR KILLS ME!!!

My parents said that i should study for SAT with test prep during winter and take the JanSAT(as many of their friends’ child get 2000 in first try and after winter prep they get a 2200+). If not successful(<2200), then study for ACT.
But i feel i am well-prepared for ACT and want to try in December.

help me with this dilemma! TY:)

I advise you go the ACT route. You’re already at a 33! A 590 in CR will greatly detract from your application, and the 630W (if the school looks at writing) isn’t much better.

Also, though everyone said that SAT is treated equally to ACT, do bias still exist?
Like, is 34 on ACT “equal but different” to a SAT 2250, since therebus curve and rounding in ACT…

My mom is like," everyone here takes SAT because ACT is ez so college looks down to it and taking ACT shows you are a person who takes a less challenging route"…

I don’t think bias exists. The ACT and SAT are two tests that measure the same things, just in different ways. Colleges don’t care if you take one or the other. Take whichever one you are best at.

Definitely go with ACT. They’re viewed identically by schools in the US. A 34 is equivalent to a 2250 SAT, so you only need to improve 1 point.

With ACT rounding, look at it like this. ACT 34, for example, converts generally to a 2250. However, its conversion range is 2220-2280. Thus, a 33.5 would be a 2220, a 33.75 = 2240, 34.0 = 2260, and 34.25 = 2280.

Your 32.75 translates to a 2160.

@newrecruit

That is not true at all. The ACT measures academic knowledge while the current SAT measures academic aptitude.

In my opinion, college admins know the current SAT is the better exam but accept the ACT anyway because they want to inflate the number of applicants. It’s a shame ETS and collegeboard caved into political pressure.

Innate talent is far more valuable to society than effort.

Whatever you choose, just make sure you ignore posts like the one above mine.

I am sure your Mom wants what is best for you!

Either the ACT or SAT will meet the standardized testing requirements for all US colleges.

Unfortunately, there is a myth that the ACT is not “as good” as the SAT. In reality, more students take the ACT.

Testing is very regional in nature.

It seems to be your better test.

Why don’t you try the ACT first, and if you do not get you the score you need, prep for the SAT.
