What percent of freshmen have done research?

<p>Th title says it all. I’ve done some independent research, like coming up with algorithms math proofs, etc. but none of that crazy stuff people do with mentors like the projects in the intel and siemens competition. How do I stack up against applicants who’ve done crazy amounts of research.</p>

<p>I don’t know an exact number, but my impression is that it’s under 50% (and probably significantly under). Even among students who have done research, most have not done research that’s earned recognition at a national level.</p>
