What "Perks" Do You Have At Work???

We get flu shots, coffee, tea, cocoa, will have a gym in our new (being built) headquarters facility, have a small locker room currently which works for me if I run at lunch. We get a good discount at our company’s retail stores, fantastic Christmas party, quarterly treats like gourmet cupcakes.

The company pays entry fees for a number of run/walk events and we have a corporate team.

…a really great work environment, all in all.

Stolen from a few previous posters:

a free selection of gourmet coffee/tea/hot chocolate on each floor,
free flu shots,
free use of the gyms (2 on campus)
free membership at a popular local chain fitness center
use of the company discounts for various services (airport parking, hotel)
discounts on expensive products through the firm’s accounts (computers, tablets, etc.)
On campus health clinic
Discounted tai chi and yoga classes
Free foreign language classes
Reimbursed tuition & books for employees taking work related courses
Regular weight loss contests with awesome prizes (cash, gift certificates, etc.)

I get to browse through CC as I eat lunch at my desk. ;-)

I run my own company with six employees. Reading about all these perks…I really need to treat myself better.
But right now, my only perk is that no one can lay me off.

I’m with you … my 54 year old body is far enough on the bad side that even I don’t wont to look at it … at 30 it was another (better) story

In the past I’ve had jobs with some very interesting travel … for 3-5 days at a shot … to interesting places … maybe once a quarter so it was very liveable. Thanks to work I’ve been to Canada, Mexico, Argentina, England, Scotland, Denmark, Germany, and India (I may have missed a couple) … at the last minute I had a Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia trip cancelled (very bummed).

hmm … and as an northeast person work has helped me see the US … Seattle, San Francisco, Denver, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, and Tampa the most frequently

Some of our offices have tinting with signage on the windows. We can see out, but people cannot see in  It’s funny watching them sometimes. We did it the other day; we were in a meeting and our fitness center was closed. We had people walking up to the door (we were at a table just inside the door) and watched them walk around all confused.

Perks at my company:
–Work cell phone (BlackBerry)
–Work in a fitness center so obviously have 24-hour access to the fitness center. I can go in WHENEVER I want  And I do… 8PM on a Saturday night is a great time to workout
–Access to rehab equipment
–Get to watch a lot of sporting events each year
–Watch TV a lot throughout the morning…

Well let’s see…I’m an employer. But we’re too small to have a cafeteria or gym.

I have two “sides” to the business, the office and the people in the field. People in the field get cell phones, gas cards, free flu shots, all the water/gatorade they care to have, free uniforms and a cozy fleece jacket.

The office - we have fully stocked coffee/hot chocolate/tea or any cold drinks they care to order from Deer Park. If I’m there at lunchtime I’ll buy the entire office lunch.

I let them vote on their hours and length of lunch break. They unanimously chose to come in at 8, half hour for lunch and leave at 4:30.

I throw a pretty awesome employee appreciation party once a year - pay for their hotel for the night, open bar, sit down dinner, dancing, dj, etc.

And - they get to work with me! :)

Amen.

Although I didn’t watch it regularly, I saw a Roseanne episode once where she said “I knew we shouldn’t have gone into business for ourselves…there’s no one to steal from!”

H’s company (a major retailer) gives us 10% off. We probably do 90% of our annual purchases there (groceries, casual clothes, gifts, school supplies, etc.). It’s worth so much!

Yeah- I get my cellphone bill paid. I forgot about that.

One really cool perk is that our mailroom will mail personal packages for us. We have to pay, but it is less than 50% off of the regular UPS rate. I’ve saved a fortune.

I get my cellphone paid too, but not sure if it is really perk.

We do business with a lot of major retailers. I am pushing to have it written in the contract to give us a discount. It would give me a bigger incentive to do a better job for them.

At my old job, we had a three-day retreat every year at a five-star resort with all-expenses-paid activities, including up to three rounds of golf at a world-class course, hot-air ballooning, sailing, cooking classes, wine tasting with sommeliers from 5-star restaurants, spa treatments, kid-friendly outings, etc. There’d be lavish evening parties, as much booze as you could drink all day and night, fabulous spreads at breakfast and lunch, interesting speakers at morning meetings, etc. etc. etc. Spouses, significant others and kids included.

People complained like crazy that they “had” to go.

What is this foreign term “perk” you speak of? >>>>>>>

Seriously.

Signed,
Healthcare Worker

Well, that’s a little better than my 8:30 to 5 with a half hour for lunch. If I discover on Monday that I need to mail something that has to be weighed, I have to wait until Saturday to mail it. But at least some of your employees might be able to get to a post office between 4:30 and 5 and not have to wait five days to do a simple errand.

VaBluebird ,
I’m the original poster and guess what - I work in health care - so clearly I wanted to live through other people’s perks!!

What is your job in health care?

Biggest perk I have is I really like my job and the vast majority of people I work with. Actually I like them all.

So interesting to see the variety - those of you who are the business owners - sounds like you treat your employees right.
