What play is this from?

I recently caught the tail end of a monologue festival and I heard a monologue that i really liked, but i don’t know what’s show it’s from and i can’t find it anywhere… I want to read the script and see if it’s something i could get material from, so can anyone help?
The line i remember is “I’m upset because you asked me what in my life mattered… and I said a sweater.”

Sorry, i know that’s pretty much nothing to go on… I"m just hoping someones seen the show and can help me out.

Don’t know if this will help you find it… but I know one of the 2010 YoungArts Theatre Finalists performed it in Miami last year, so if you find the program for that it should be listed.

It’s from a play called “Your Mother’s Butt” in an anthology of short plays called LAUGH LINES. I found it by typing the line you remembered into google. Do the same and it will take you to an excerpt from the scene. Someone stitched the dialogue together to create a monologue. Good luck!

Thanks!

However, i’ve tried searching the line and many variations in google, and I can’t find the site your talking about. I’d like to read the monologue to see if i really like it before investing the play… can you give the link here or pm me?

Try going to this book on Amazon and when you get there, click on “search inside the book” and keep turning the pages until you get to page 18…

[Amazon.com: Laugh Lines: Short Comic Plays (9780307277138): Eric Lane, Nina Shengold: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Laugh-Lines-Short-Comic-Plays/dp/0307277135)

Thanks so much!!!

haha unfortunatly, page 18 is the only page not included in the free preview…lol oh well. I read the rest of it, and I don’t love the play enough to seriously consider doing to for my audition.

Thank you all for your help anyway, though! You guys are awesome!

Well, it must change each time you “open” the book. When I searched for you, it was page 17 that would not show but the excerpt that showed up began on page 18. Just now, after reading your post above, I went to look again and page 17 showed up THIS time but pages 18-20 would not.

I realize you’ve decided not to pursue this monologue but I thought I’d mention that if you’re looking for college audition material, and not just a monologue for a show audition, you should be sure to confirm with the schools on your list that a monologue from such a play is permitted. I recall when my D auditioned, and granted that was some time ago, there were schools which did not allow monologues from ‘one acts’, which are typically between 15 and 30 minute shows. This may have changed in the interim but it’s best to confirm prior to choosing the material.

haha yeah, I guess it must keep changing.

I’m actually only a junior - I haven’t really started looking too much for my college audition monologues yet. I’m trying to find monolouges to audition for a summer theater festival called Masterworks. If anyone else on here is looking for a fantastic summer program, you should look into it and see if it’s right for you, because it was the most amazing experience of my life! :)
