What re the back-up plans?

Do you all have solid safety nets, or is your plan to attend the local public school? If we are not successful, the local High School will be ok - not great - but such a different experience for the next four years. Night and day!

Our plan is LPS and see how it goes looking to probably re-apply for next year. LPS is reasonable and there could be a focus on academic summers. Solid back-up plan but definitely would be a hard pill to swallow.

i know! like a glimpse of a golden future, but snatched away again!

We are applying to a broad range of schools to ensure we have acceptances on March 10.

I am applying to 10 schools, which includes one safety. (Two schools are slight safeties since they are not GREAT fits for me). I am also applying to my local magnet (which is very competitive, by the way, with a 16% acceptance rate). God forbid it happens, but if I get WL or rejected at all 10 schools, AND my magnet, I will go to public and try again next year.

Good luck to all of your children!

Forgot to add, if I go to my local magnet school, I will almost definitely apply again. (Unless I like it so much there that I decide to choose to stay, which probably will not happen, since nothing is better than boarding IMO.)

Are you applyingfor 10th grade, Mathman?

No, I’m applying for ninth.

My current independent day school had a 9th grade so I will stay there if I don’t have an acceptance on M10, however I am not very happy at this school currently so it is far from ideal.

I am applying to my local private high school where all applicants from my school kind of have a guarantteed place

DD has been accepted with a honor scholarship at a local private religious school with competitive academics. This is her option if the BS does not accept her with sufficient FA. It is a very good school, so she will be okay. There is always next year, if she is still interested.

We’re running all the options for our kid. We have applied to a couple of local private schools, will be applying to the neighboring school district’s public IB school, and if all fails, will max out the honors and AP classes at the local public school.

All of the options have pluses and minuses - even the local public school. It’s close enough for my kid to walk to school, and the swim team won state this year (and my kid’s strongest strokes are where they are weaker). The school team swims at our swim club pool even so it’s an easy transition to the high school team, with at least 5 girls on the team now that we know and will be returning next year.

Local private school decisions are 2 weeks before the boarding schools, so we’ll know about our “backup” options before M10

Prepx3D applied to a range of schools, including a local parochial school where her grades and scores should put her in an excellent position to be accepted. She would probably reapply for 10th grade, but might stay if she liked the school.

Current private day school if not accepted. Excellent school and thriving there, just wouldn’t be able to move out of area as soon as we’d like if local school our only option. So fortunately, no real pressure or stress! Kid knows if nothing else, this was great practice for college admission cycle in two years.

If M10 is a sad day again this year, I’ll be back where I am. I don’t think I’ll apply again next year. It’s just so exhausting and draining, and I only have so much hope and spirit. Why waste it all before I finish high school?

But I feel like this year could be it. I can’t stop daydreaming, and I hope those daydreams ring true this time. I hope I can come out of this process as an inspiration with a happy ending. I hope I can show that hard work pays off.

I believe in you, @stargirl3!! I marvel at your persistence. I barely survived one cycle… How on earth did you do three? You’re a great inspiration on CC.

@mathman1201, I haven’t survived my third just yet.

Stargirl3 - I am relatively new to posting on these boards, but I have trolled through years-worth of old postings, mining for information. As a result, I have been privy to your hopes, dreams, disappointments and ‘rebirths’ over the years. What an incredible young woman you are! If your FC BS doesn’t accept you, or any of your BSs accept you - they are shortsighted fools. You will be crushed, temporarily, but your innate resilience will get you through. Just remember that the whole process, together with the determined effort you have put forth, will stand you in good stead wherever you end up. I imagine you have self-examined, cross-examined and thought through just about every aspect of yourself and your life. Not many young people of your age can say that. Look at the study habits you must have developed. Look at the writing skills you have honed. Look at the incredible maturity you have gained. You will go far, regardless of the outcome of M10, no question of it. Look out Wellesley!!

I am curious that the word I used in the above posting has been edited, as though I said something offensive. I didnt.

I used the word trawled. I may have spelled it incorrectly, however. Is that offensive?

@Britmom5 I was wondering about that! Somehow a swear word doesn’t seem to fit that sentence. Thank you so much. I really appreciate all the support I’ve gotten through these boards and I hope everyone’s crossed fingers will be enough to send an acceptance letter my way.
