What’s better: An A in a DE course or a 3 on an AP test?

Also, Is taking a mix of AP and DE better than taking just strictly taking one of them?

The grade in a class is more important than the AP score, although ideally you could have an A in the course and a 5 on the exam.

Not necessarily. It depends upon what courses are being offered.

I think it depends on the types of schools that are under consideration. DD is looking at LACs and they give no credit for DE classes at all but do give credit for AP scores, providing the score meets their requirements (depends on major and test subject). If you are looking at public schools, DE might be a better option.

bump

An A in DE if the class is transferable to the college your heading too is 6 credits usually while a 3 in AP will not be accepted for credit (if scoring is the same as IB) … son did both DE for English and IB (HL)

Why do you assume that it’s either an A in DE or a 3 in the AP? Ideally, shouldn’t an A translate to a 5?

As noted, what’s better is an A in the course and a 5 on the AP exam.

The answer to your questions about a mix of DE and AP classes is - it depends! Depends on what courses are available at your high school, which AP and DE courses you’re considering, and what colleges you are targeting.
