Is Lit a senior-year thing, btw? And how common is October Sat II taking?

Lit is one of those tests that you don’t study in school, so you can take whenever you want (though it’s purportedly hard).

Good SAT2s to take junior year, I would think, would be Math 2 (covers up to precalc), and US History if you’re learning it in school.

I second US History… I took it in senior year, after I forgot almost everything. Also, if you’re in any science classes, take those in May, with the material fresh in your mind.

If you’ll be taking calculus senior year, take Math 2 Junior year, before your mind is clouded with integrals and derivatives… or wait, it doesn’t really matter.

I say, take the subject tests for the subjects you’re taking in school. IN MAY!

It all depends on what courses you are taking in a given year. For example, the NYS Regents curriculum calls for Bio in 10th grade, Chem in 11th grade and Physics in 12th grade (unless you are accelerated). So you would usually take those tests in May or June of the year you took the course, presuming that you are a strong science student. Again, in NYS, World History is taught in 9th & 10th grade and US History in 11th, so those are the grades when you would most likely take the appropriate SAT II.

I would also note that in NYS – where the public school year end in late June – it is just as common to take SATIIs in JUNE as it is in MAY.

Lit should be a senior thing. It’s one of those tests that you either do very well or you don’t. Not a lot of preperation can be done except to be familiar with the format.
