What school can I get into?

I am currently a freshman at a community college in Washington state. I am hoping to transfer to a 4 year in California but I’m not really sure what I will be able to get into and what would be the best for me. I am going to pursue a business administration bachelors in information systems. I know UC Berkeley would probably be the best but my gpa is around 3.5 and I doubt I would make it. I am looking at some other UC’s and CSU’s but all I can really find about which programs are good are the reviews like princeton, businessweek… and they seem to all have those. I just want to be realistic and find out which school has the best program that I would be able to get into.

Can you afford the $50k per year that Berkeley costs for out-of-state students?

If not, how much can you afford? That will likely determine your choices.

Most likely. 50K is probably about the max, but I really doubt I would have a chance of getting accepted there. From what I have seen its ranked about #3 in the nation for business schools.

Well…

If you can afford $100k for 2 years to finish your degree in Business, you’ll probably find several good schools that will take you (and some will be cheaper than Berkeley!).

Hopefully, someone can chime in here and give the likelihood that these schools accept transfers who don’t have financial need…

Indiana U is rated #11.
U Wisconsin is rated #13.
Don’t know if NYU (#5) takes transfers into Stern, but they might be need aware and take you.
Carnegie Mellon #6
USC #10

Do you know which others would be the best in california besides UC Berkeley and USC?
I have heard some good things about UC Irvine and CSU San Bernardino. Or will the UC’s and CSU’s all have fairly similar programs?

What about…

Santa Clara
UC San Diego
Chapman U
Cal Poly SLO

I’m not finding anything special about CSU San Bernadino…but, I may not be looking in the right place. LOL It may have a decent program, but the campus may be a bit of a commuter or suitcase school.

I don’t doubt that UCI has a decent program with Merage, but what have you heard about it? UCI has a great location. The Bren Center is there for entertainment possibilities…close to the beach…and The Irvine Spectrum is super close for fun, too.

The above listed schools have higher rankings for undergrad B-schools.

where did you get the rankings, mom2collegekids?

Since you’re instate at Washington, what about UDub’s Foster school of business?

You can apply to Berkeley’s Haas program as a sophomore for junior transfer. However, make sure you read up and take/plan to take all the required prerequisites:

Those prerequisites are stringent. Out of 1,491 transfer applicants, only 402 were deemed eligible and of those 25% were ultimately admitted to Haas.

Seahawks…I got it from the 2009 USNews…so there might be some slight tweaks for 2010…but I doubt the rankings would swing enough to eliminate a school from consideration.

oh, I guess i dont have the premium edition so that explains it
