I got into The McCombs school of business school at UTAustin and Vanderbilt. Both are financially equal. UT business is ranked number 6th in the country, but isn’t well known, Vanderbilt is number 15 but with no business school (I’d be doing Economics and Human and Organizational development with a Minor in Business.) I’m looking to do management/consulting work after graduate school. What is each schools brand value in the job markets? What types of recruiters come to both schools? What do I do?
A business school ranked number 6 is most certainly well known.
The Business school is well know, the rest of the school is not (Other than for sports). The management program is not as well ranked as the finance or accounting- that’s why i’m asking for advice.
UT not well known … quite laughable.
If you have an answer id really appreciate it. Becuase, at least where I’m from it’s not well known. I’m glad that it is in other places. That’s why I’m asking

Have you checked with career services to see who has conducted OCR in the past couple years for both of these schools? Vanderbilt may not have business but neither do most of the ivys for undergradate
I think you should decide based on if you like Austin or Nashville better. Where would you like to live? Is one closer to home/more accessible for holidays/vacations? Do you prefer the climate at one over the other? Have you been able to visit both schools? I have seen Vanderbilt and personally love Nashville but I know many love Austin (I have not been there). I have a family member who is a Vandy alum and I know the greek system is big there. Is that something you’d want? She was an alumni interviewer and stopped doing it because she was meeting so many wonderful students who weren’t getting in. Congratulations on both acceptances! Really something to celebrate! You can’t go wrong with either school and you’ll make the right decision.
Gut feeling, Vanderbilt. If they’re equal financially…and if you like them both…I believe Vanderbilt is a better choice for a student looking to work in many regional areas of the country.
If you plan to go to graduate school, I have read that some top MBA programs actually prefer students with a major other than business. (and, as noted above) most Ivies don’t offer undergraduate business, though many graduates go on to corporate or finance careers. I’m not a business person myself, so don’t take my word for it, check other sources. Having said this, I feel sure you can be very successful in life in either program, if you work hard and look for opportunities. What is your “gut” telling you? Different students thrive in different types of environments…so go for the program and atmosphere that really excites you. Have you visited both schools and talked to people in the programs?
I’d pick Vanderbilt if it’s the same price. Private amenities that can’t be replicated by a public.
However for the record UT is very well known in industry and by grad schools.
