What schools are considered particularly liberal or conservative?

^ And also does the preppy vibe usually go along with a conservative one?

Oberlin & Reed on the Left. Berkeley has too large a student body for them all to be Kubaya.

Born-again Bible colleges on the Right. Again, schools w very large student bodies will have political diversity by default.

Liberal- American U, northeastern, Columbia, tufts. Conservative- Washington U
Those are the ones that immediately come to mind.

Based on my observations, Berkeley is far left…

Keep in mind that for every outspoken, noisy lib/conservative student making an ass out of themselves in public, there are a dozen more students who can’t be bothered.

I’d also put Swarthmore in the very liberal group.

You’ll get a lot of different opinions. For example, I don’t think Northeastern is super liberal and I don’t think WUSTL is conservative.

I just feel that I lean more to the right and I think being in an environment where an overwhelming majority of people have a different opinion from me would just bother me.

Conservative:
Oklahoma State University
The Citadel
BYU
Utah State University
Hampden-Sydney College
Washburn University
Southwestern Oklahoma State
Idaho State University

I have never heard Wash U mentioned as conservative before.
Conservative - Washington & Lee, SMU
Liberal - Vassar, Oberlin, Wesleyan

Yes, I was surprised to see Northeastern listed as liberal. My NEU grad was surprised how little activism there was on campus, and how few political discussions there were in the classroom. Of course, she was a science student so her impression may be skewed. But she said the campus democrats were mostly passive - and this was when Obama was running for president, and progressive activism on all campuses was at fever pitch. Not at NEU…

Most campuses are liberal. I am a strong republican but you kind of have to deal with it. In college, you will face a lot of new views and opinions. That is why college is so amazing! Different culture, race, ideology, religions
Also when I said northeastern and washu that’s what I felt when I was on campus and from student I know there. But it’s all good.

Or who have an opinion, but are too well mannered to make an ass out of themselves in public.

Hollins and Wheaton in Illinois = conservative. Various religious schools like Catholic U of America. Pepperdine. Whittier. The military academies. The Citadel. Berea, Wabash, Liberty, and some of the maritime academies, Rose Hulman, College of the Ozarks, Texas A&M, Grove City, Bob Jones, Moody Bible Institute, U of Miss, South Dakota Mines and Tech, U of Alabama, Princeton (for the more conservative Ivy), Dartmouth (as preppy conservative, Upper East Side NYC conservative–so liberal for the rest of the world, but in liberal circles conservative), U Miami florida for preppy wealthy non-religious conservative.

Liberal: Vassar, Bard, Sarah Lawrence, any of the seven sisters, Berkeley, Davis, UCSC, Oberlin, Skidmore, Occidental, the Claremont consortium, Wooster,

There’s the handful of conservative colleges…

…the rest are left or center.

@mom2collegekids I wouldn’t mind a moderate school at all or a school where theres a mix. I just feel I wouldn’t fit in at a VERY liberal school

Rule of thumb- Elite colleges are usually pretty liberal.

Wooster is more moderate than liberal IMO. DePauw is pretty conservative. Baylor, Texas A&M are conservative.

Vassar, Oberlin, Macalester, Occidental, Smith, Reed, Swarthmore, Pitzer = really liberal
TAMU, Washington&Lee, McKenna, Hampden Sydney, Wheaton Il, Hope, Calvin, Baylor, Wofford, Houghton, HiIllsdale, BYU, Catholic U = really conservative
Moderate = Dickinson, St Olaf, Davidson, Denison, Wooster, Drake…

Trinity? Even at Vassar there’s a conservative club . . .

Villanova, The major state Us often have a big mix of students guaranteeing that you’d find a like-minded group. Sewannee, Rhodes, Davidson, Furman, Wofford. Baylor, Clemson, Hampden-Sydney, SMU, Samford, Lynchburg, robert morris u, Hope,

Marquette and Lawrence might be middle of the road. Centre. Denison, St. Olaf, Augustana, Gettysburg,
