What Schools Are Reasonable

Hi guys,
I’m 14 and just finished my freshman year in high school
Unweighted GPA not good around 3.3-3.4
Some good extracurriculars ran well in cross country and track
What schools are reasonable for me to look at?

Check back when you’re a junior.

Some state schools, maybe LAC’s. Don’t buy into the ivy hype. What state do you live in? I do agree I can’t tell you a lot when your only a freshman just work hard and go somewhere you love.

I would start visiting some local schools such as one large state university and one LAC. This will give you an idea of where to starting looking at possible colleges. Until you have your GPA at the end of Junior year and test scores, it is really difficult to start formulating a list. Work hard, enjoy school and do EC’s that you are interested in pursuing, not geared to just getting into a specific university. You have plenty of time.

@mco1997 California are there any universities that don’t look at freshman year grades around?

UC’s and Cal states will only use 10-11th grades for GPA calculation. Freshman grades are looked at to see if the required a-g courses are completed with satisfactory grades and Senior grades are used to maintain a provisional admission. Majority of privates use 9-11th grades for admission purposes. Cal Poly SLO another Cal State will use Freshman grades in their GPA calculation. You need to check each school’s website to get the particulars.

Stanford as well

Dude all the UCs and Stanford don’t even look at freshman year. UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Riverside do not look at your grades now. So technically all those are possibilities but you have to do much better next year.
