What schools can be a safety for somebody like me?

<p>GPA: School does not calculate GPA. It is not because they do not give it to us, they do not calculate it.</p>

<p>GRADES: Second Semester Junior Year:
Math: B+
Cont. Lit: A-
Spanish V: B
Chem: C (I know.)
Economics: A-
Journalism: B+
SAT II’S: Math IC: 690 (Will take IIC and Lit)</p>

LOCATION: New York City
SCHOOL: Extremely competitive small private school (Dalton). School does not have AP classes (we do not even take AP exams), nor do we have class rank or a GPA system. 100% of graduating class goes onto college, usually all top-tier schools (with the exception of 3 or 4 going to SUNY or state schools)
FAMILY: 1st generation going to college</p>

<p>You could figure out your GPA even if Dalton doesn’t. Dalton doesn’t offer APs? My friend’s son goes to Dalton. I know he just took 3 APs in April. Have you talked to your counselor? You should have a list of reaches, matches and safeties from your counselor by now. Ask your counselor to place you against previous graduates (they have a chart to show where you are relative to other applicants, rejected and accepted). Dalton’s 3.5 is different than other school’s. It is a very competitive school and has a great track record of placement, especially with your headmaster’s new focus. As an URM, you probably have a better chance of getting into some schools, especially LACs.</p>

<p>There are a LOT of LACs that would be a safety for you – it’s sort of hard to even list them all. How far from home do you want to go? Do you need merit aid money?</p>

<p>You’d find a lot of great LACs in Pennsylvania that would fit the description - also Denison and Wooster in OH.</p>

<p>Is that how Reed is perceived today? Back in my college research days, Reed was seen with a sense of respect for their academic atmosphere.</p>

<p>I also don’t see Reed as a safety for anyone, due to its quirkiness and the importance of essays and interview, even if a student has top GPA and SAT numbers.</p>

<p>I don’t mind going far away from home. I would actually prefer it, but in-state wouldn’t be bad either.</p>

<p>And yeah I am looking at Reed, but definitely not as a safety.</p>

<p>This person cleary doesn’t go to Dalton because most of the courses she listed are not offered there (Arabic, Spanish V (after level 4 there are electives), Journalism, there is an Economics course but NOT offered for any juniors)</p>
