<p>Hi, I got denied from USC (the only school I applied to this year) so I’m looking to see what other schools I can apply to and get into next year after improving my GPA a little. Please help me out! </p>
<p>What schools can I consider my safeties, and what can I consider as a reach? I’m not really sure so any help would benefit. Thanks :)</p>
<p>It really depends on where you are located (if applying to public universities), what your major is, and extracurriculars, etc.</p>
<p>If you’re applying to privates there’s no need to worry about where you hold residency but it does matter for public schools because they have a mandate to help those in their state. If you live in CA then you can TAG to a UC and get guarenteed admissions if you meet the requirements.</p>
<p>Some majors for certain schools are more/less competitive than others. Applying to USC Marshall? You better have a good app. Applying to USC for anthropology? You’d have a better shot.</p>
<p>Additionally, some schools care more about extracurriculars than others. For example, Cal cares more about them than UCLA does. So it depends, what do you want to major in and what schools are you thinking of? Don’t just go to any school just because you can get in.</p>

<p>Yes, applying as a junior to all schools. I’ll most likely have 90-95 credits by the time I’m done! And what do you mean by financial safeties?</p>
<p>Schools that you know you can afford. Fortunately the UCs, USC, and some other privates give good financial aid to transfers but many other schools do not since the best financial aid is often reserved for the best incoming freshmen.</p>
<p>Ah, well because of my family’s situation I won’t have any financial safeties. I will be pulling out huge loans/relying on grants to go to these schools.</p>

<p>Those are all doable, I’m not sure about the others because I did not apply to them. I was admitted to all of the above. Get some extracurriculars in because those will really set you apparent at more holistic schools such as USC and Cal. 3.6-3.7 is doable to USC but it may be a reach for Cal. I’m sure you’ll get into the other UCs.</p>

<p>From what I’ve read, UCLA and Berkeley have cutthroat admissions for transfer students for Comm Studies and other majors as well. Although, I think people with like 3.9s were getting rejected and some 3.7/3.8s got in as well. I think it really depends on how you achieve your grades. I transferred to USC a year ago, so I can answer anything regarding the transfer admissions at USC, if you have any questions. I got in with a 3.73 at a Princeton-reveiwed top-50 public university. I took courses such as biology, intro to microecon, sociology, spanish 3, English Comp, etc. Basically, take general courses that fulfill your current school’s requirement but also satisfy USC’s GE reqs. If money isn’t an issue too, you can try applying to NYU, another great school on the east coast.</p>
