What schools did you choose UPenn over?

If you’re coming to Penn, tell us which schools you chose over Penn. Or if you’re turning Penn down for another school, what school is that?

I chose Penn over a couple of Ivies (a few people have actually berated me for my choice), Georgetown, UVA, Tufts, UCBerkeley, UCLA, Lehigh, and Oregon State

which ivies? i chose penn over northwestern, cornell, uchicago, umichigan (h), tufts, NYU, USC, & a few other insignificant ones

over NWU, Cornell, CMU, and JHU.

I chose it over Columbia, Brown, and uhhh… I’ll stop here.

I chose Penn over Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern, UCLA, UCSD, and the in-state schools.

Chose Penn over Carnegie Mellon (Tepper), Boston College (Carroll Honors Program), and UCONN (Business Honors + scholarship)

Chose Penn over Cornell, Boston U, Univ of Illinois-Urbana, Penn State…Quaker Style!:stuck_out_tongue: WOooOOoOo

I love Penn more than I love Northwestern (ahhh i had my heart set on this school after i was deferred ED from penn), Columbia (never really considered it cuz i didn’t think i’d get in), NYU Stern, state school… yeah. didn’t apply to many schools.

well, i’m '08, but procrastinating studying, so i’ll reply :)

I turned down CMU (SCS), Cornell, UMD (full ride), BC, and a few others I can’t honestly remember at this moment!

It was a tough choice between Penn and CMU (mainly because CMU has the best CS department in the country…) but I chose penn in the end and haven’t regretted that decision for one minute :)

What I would like to know is how the colleges “rank” once you remove selectivity as a ranking… some schools simply have more space than others. If that factor is excluded… heh

Penn over MIT

aw you’re going to penn! =) yay!

What would you say to someone turning down one or more of HYPS for Penn hypothetically?

I’d say if they wanted Penn’s atmosphere, and if Penn had the right programs for them, then go with it.

We’re not talking about turning down HYPS for community college. We’re talking about turning down one school for another that is probably better in some aspects, equally good in others, and probably lesser in still others.

Joey

over Cornell, JHU, Georgetown, UVA, et al.

well i’m an '08er also taking a break from studying for finals, but i thought I’d share…

I applied ED to Penn but I still found out from some schools. I was accepted to Arizona State Honors (full tuition, room and board, + 10,000 stipend, + flinn scholarship[full travel to anywhere in the world for my 4 years & 2 semesters abroad payed for]). So that was pretty enticing. Also after i withdrew from WUSTL they called me and told me that i had received one of their scholarships (full tuition, +5000 stipend). I was also accepted EA to BC was accepted to the Carroll Honors Program and the Presidential Scholars Program (full tuition). I also applied to Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, & Stanford. I never found out from the last 4.

wow bern, flinn is a great honor. I spent about 5 minutes on my essays for it- I didnt want to get it, because I wasnt planning on staying instate, and i didnt want to deprive it from others who wanted it, cause they only give out 20 a year. a friend and another classmate got it tho.

Over GA Tech, UMich, Northwestern, Cornell, and Columbia.

Over Berkeley EECS, CMU SCS, Cornell…
