What schools did you turn down?

I’m a freshman…but some of the schools I turned down last year where:
Johns Hopkins (Engineering)
Vanderbilt (Engineering)
Emory

Final Decision: USC

Accepted:
UCB
UCLA
UCSD
UCI
UCR

Rejected:
Stanford
Caltech

I didn’t give up much and it sure did make my choice easier. I only applied to 5-6 to start out with. Rejected @ 3 and accepted @ 3, so 50/50.

I had some thought about choosing b/w USC and OU because OU would be MUCH MUCH cheaper… but in the end, i’m going to USC! WOOT (Time to go to Steve and barry’s and buy me some USC shirts)

“OddEyes, just curious why you turned down northwestern…”

Because I’m going into acting, and I wanted to start building connections in LA while in college. I also hated Northwestern’s campus/the feel of the actual school. Their theatre department was amazing, but I loved USC’s, too.

Plus, I have SAD, and cold weather isn’t exactly the most pleasant thing in the world for me.

Good choice then. What didn’t you like about the campus? Just wondering… I was there during the summer for a journalism program, and saw some of the campus.
good point about the weather. You can’t go wrong with sunshine all year :)

im still in highschool im applying next year but everyone here seems so smart haha i feel stupid :(

*Accepted: *
UCLA
NYU
USC

*Rejected: *
Berkeley
UPenn

Final Decision: UCLA

^why did you do that?

I only got into 2 schools and I’m turning down University of Maryland.

Ya, I know the college admission’s process showed me a lot of love.

Oh and just for the hell of it, F**K UCLA

Come on folks. Keep these USC threads positive.

Let those from other schools be the ones who cross the line, and become negative.

Keep things positive, just as the staff, and faculty have done for us, at USC.

cacjr, I did that because I realized (and heard from very credible sources) that an undergraduate degree in business is very trivial. MBA schools do not look at the name, but rather the extent of participation in ec’s and grades. Thus, paying $32k (tuition only) for Marshall or paying $9k at UCLA will most probably lead me to the same end result. Yes, Marshall may be a bit more practical but Business Economics at UCLA will provide tremendous opportunities and many of the same business/finance courses. That was the primary basis of my reasoning and thus, my decision.

My daughter is on the verge of committing to USC, she’ll decide for sure this weekend.

Other acceptances:

Redlands
Wake Forest
Wheaton (IL)
UCSB (Regent’s Scholar)
Sewanee
Chapman (Honors at Entrance)
Biola
LB State
University of Tulsa

Waitlisted:

Williams
Elon

No rejections.

Lots of UCLA rejects here! No wonder everyone hates UCLA so much!!

I was accepted:
UCB
UCLA
UCSD
UCI
USC
Stanford
Princeton

Waitlisted:
Duke

Rejected:
None

I’ve turned down:
UCI, UCSD, USC, Duke from waitlist.

A final decision will be made soon. Good luck to everyone! And hay, get over UCLA!!

I was accepted:
USC (with presidential scholarship)
UCB
UCLA
UCSD
UCI
UCD
UCSC

Rejected by:
Columbia

I’m going to UCLA!
If I got the full scholarship I would have gone to USC. But UCLA is still cheaper since I’m not getting finaid!

I’m definitely going to USC on a trustee scholarship.

Accepted:
Wellesley
Scripps-James E. Scripps half tuition scholarship

Rejected:
Brown
Harvard
Columbia
Stanford

I was debating between Wellesley and USC for some time, but I finally turned in my enrollment forms for USC. Some of my friends weren’t so supportive about me going to USC (they all wanted me to go to Wellesley) but they’re OK with it now. Funnily enough, all of my friends at Wellesley were telling me why I shouldn’t go there! It just goes to show this decision is really complicated.

If I had to do this again I would’ve applied to some UC’s and more small liberal arts colleges, but I’m happy with the way things turned out. Hope to see a bunch of you in August!

Accepted:
UCLA (Honors)
UCDavis (Regent’s Scholar)
USC (Dean’s Scholar, Honors)

Rejected:
