What schools do you reccomend?

I am going into my senior year and was curious for outside opinions to what schools are in my range. I REALLY NEED HELP WITH GOOD SAFETY SCHOOLS!!!

What I’m looking for: don’t care much about location in US, want college either to be near a city or have a really great vibe/college town (can be in the middle of nowhere if it is a great place). Want to go to a really strong academic school with a good reputation.

some ideas (what do you think)?:

Georgetown (coach interested in recruiting)
Williams (coach interested in recruiting)

Reach/goal:
Yale (interest from coach, though I am definitely not a top recruit)

GPA: 3.9 (on a 4.0 scale)
ranked in top 10% of student body
received award for outstanding community service

SAT: 2160 (730,730, 690) super score, I know not the best-retaking in fall and working hard to get it higher (should I try ACT?)
PSAT: 215
SAT II in English: 740
SAT II in American History: 690 (retaking)
SAT II in Math 2: 690 (retaking)

AP/Course load:
sophomore year: AP European History
junior year: AP American History, AP Physics
senior year (going to take): AP Physics, AP English, AP Calculous, AP 2D Art

EXTRACURRICULARS:
Varsity swim team since Freshman Year
Team Captain for 2016
Team is Section Champions 3 years in a row
State Championships Qualifier and ranked top 25 in individual events

Wesleyan, Amherst, Haverford, Pomona-Pitzer (although I would not call this neck of southern california a college town–but academics are top flight), are schools that I would also consider application, and you could also swim, but are not necessarily safety schools. So, safety schools, Trinity, TX (is very well regarded and San Antonio is actually really fun), George Washington, AmericanU and Villanova come to mind.

No matter who the student is, I wouldnt really consider berkeley or georgetown a match for really anyone. Even if you had a perfect 4.0 and a 2400 SAT i still probably wouldnt call it a match since their acceptance rates are so low. I would try to look at schools that are a little more safe. I would recommend maybe University of Maryland or University of Virginia as better matches. Maryland may even be a low match or safety for you

great! Thank you. The only reason I considered Georgetown as more of a match is because the coach has shown a lot of interest in me so I could most likely swim there. However, I totally agree with your assessment of Berkeley because it is a very hard school to get into.

Kenyon has very strong academics and a wonderful swimming program, perennial nationally ranked. Williams and Georgetown are not matches for you unless you are a really, really good swimmer and they want you badly. Other schools to consider - Tufts, G.Washington, William & Mary these really aren’t safety schools either.

Denison is also a fabulous D3 swimming program (2nd to Kenyon last year at Nationals) with slightly lower entrance requirements than Kenyon.

Let me also suggest Emory University in Atlanta, GA – not really a safety school, but one that you should be a strong candidate for with your statistics. The political science department is highly regarded, and the school also offers a degree in international studies; further, the women’s swim/dive team there has been the D-III national champions for the past four or five years.

Another thought would be Tulane University in New Orleans – again, not necessarily a safety, but one that I think you would be a good candidate for.

And yes, take the ACT: according to a guy I know who runs a test preparation service, students usually do better on either the SAT or the ACT; and who knows, maybe the ACT is your test.
