What schools offer provisional admission as a junior?

We met with my child’s college counselor today. He is considering Clemson as one of his safety schools. In reading about it today I see that they offer provisional admission to juniors based on test scores. Specifically, high stats kids who sent their ACT scores directly to Clemson were offered provisional admission. It seems like these letters also come with offers of merit aid. My child has strong grades and SATs. He is consistently scoring 35s (with subscores between 34-36) on his practice ACT, but takes the test next weekend. Based on his prior performance, he seems like a good candidate for this program.

I wondered if anyone knows of any other schools that offer this?

I don’t know if Clemson still does that. Back when my oldest was a junior, she got a provisional acceptance with her score of 32 in the spring. Knowing that, my current senior had her ACT score sent there from her test in winter of junior year. She got a 35 and she never received anything from them.

Interesting. My info was from 2016 so maybe not!

@UVAmom23 Clemson no longer offers Provisional Acceptance.

Clemson no longer does provisional acceptances .

Thank you! I will let my son know. Taking the ACT Saturday. Any other places that do?

Not to say it doesn’t exist, but I’ve never heard of a college offering provisional acceptances. Seems like it would be a lot of additional work for an admissions staff (since they would have to re-review the provisional acceptances the next year) for pretty minimal benefit (assuming the provisional acceptance is not binding). I’ll keep checking this thread out of curiosity though.

Clemson caught my eye because they apparently have in the recent past and I have a high scoring/grades kid who is interested in Clemson for engineering. It sounds like they offered merit aid - up to 15k - with offers which would be a nice thing to have in the bag before you start applying, particularly since we are OOS and Clemson would be a safety. Sad to see it go but would love someone else to chime in about provisional admission to juniors . . .
