What schools should I apply to?

Hi CCers,

I just finished off my first semester smoothly (whew!) and I ended up with a 3.6. The catch is that I am attending a community college, so I don’t know how colleges will look at the 3.6 because apparently my classes might be easier on some level. I am looking to transfer to some colleges in the New England area and I don’t know what schools I should look into. I took a year off and now I feel new to all this admission things again :P. The math courses I took in college this semester is really easy though(but they required me to make it up because I did really bad on it in high school) and I am sure it will affect my chances. I ended up with a B+ in my pre-calculus class, which I know looks really really bad for a college student. Anyways I am taking calculus 1 next semester and my advisor said she can notify my college about my situation. I am currently looking at different colleges but I don’t know where to go to. My SAT scores are relatively bad, 1460 to be exact. I know that colleges will still put a heavy weight on SAT scores because I am transferring as a sophomore. So should I retake the SAT and what colleges should I be looking into? State schools or am I already good enough for schools like Bentley and NEU?

Thank You!

I’m not very well versed on colleges in the northeast, so I can’t help you there.
A lot of freshman take precalc, or trig/college algebra their first semester, so that’s not really a problem. It’s good to see that you’re taking calc 1. I would definitely retake the SAT. I am also applying for sophomore transfer and I only had a 24 on my ACT so I’m taking the SAT due to an earlier test date in my area. 3.6 is a pretty good GPA. Just keep it up through calc and you should be able to transfer to a good number of schools.
