What schools should I go for??

Id like to know which schools should I go for.
I want to do engineering.
First off I am Brasilian and I speak Portuguese, Spanish, English and Italian.
Furthermore, I would like to go to top engineering schools (Stanford, UCBerkeley, CalTech, MIT, etc.)

I am currently doing the IB Diploma program (hope to get at least 39/41 out of 45 points). I do Mathematics HigherLevel, Chemisty HigherLevel, Physics HigherLever, English(as a first language) StandardLevel, Portuguese StandardLevel and Brasilian Geography/History SL(BSS).
I have done Igcse exams and gotten the 3rd best score in my year group (3/83) - 7As, 2As, 2Bs.
A
in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geogprahy, Spanish(second language),
A in English Language(as a first language), Portuguese (first language)
B in English Literature and ICT
I have also gotten a silver medal in an international math competition MathKangaroo (the only one available at my school) - the best score in my year group.
I am not sure on the conversion(we dont have GPAs in Brasil), but I think I have one around 3.8 unweighted. I am still going to do the SAT, but I would say I can get around 2100/2250 - 800math, and around 700 on the rest (got a 2060 in a mock and going to do the real one in October).
ECS:
I have played tennis for 8years and I compete at national/regional tournaments, I play soccer as a hobby, volunteered for a NGO and helped raise money (organized a musical concert) for local communities. I have also played electric guitar for 2years and participated at two MUNs.
Thanks you very much, have a great day.

Someone Answer Please!!

You have an attractive resume, but you will need actual test scores to know if you have any real chance. You have expressed interested in colleges which attract the best and brightest students from all over the world, and reject thousands of incredibly qualified applicants every year. If you want to attend an Engineering college in the US, you will need to expand your list beyond those. All you have to do is look at some “Results” threads on this site to see the number of students with perfect grades and scores who did not get into any of them. Will you need financial aid? If so, you should probably skip Berkeley, and all the UCs, completely. They give almost nothing to out-of-state students. If you have safety colleges in Brazil, then there’s no harm in applying to competitive colleges here, as long as you have some understanding of just how brutal the admissions scenario is at the ones you mentioned. There are undoubtedly many other American engineering schools you can get into, if you really want to come here. You will receive an excellent education at any of them, but the “brand name” might not be as prestigious at home.

@woogzmama Thanks for the feedback!

And I forgot to mention that I won awards for being the best student in Mathematics and History in my year group.

Without a SAT score, I can’t give you a good answer. Fist of all apply to safety schools. You need to get above 2250+ for those schools. Those schools are not easy to get in. Do your best. Good luck!

@Jr12317 Ok! Thanks!

Have you taken the SAT subject tests?

GPA and SAT scores aside, you have a really amazing resume. However, it’d be great if you have an extracurricular related to engineering, as it would show that you have a passion for this field. From what I see, your interest in engineering is limited to academics only (correct me if I’m wrong). But that’s only one recommendation, and you don’t have to force yourself into doing it. Definitely go for the top schools, but remember to add some safeties to your complete college list.

@okscname: disregard the advice above :). Silver Medal in International MathKangaroo, tennis at national/regional level, IB 39-41, 9 IGCSEs at A*/A, and MUN, plus the fact you’re now officially classified as an under-represented group for American colleges, all make you a very competitive applicant. That still only means your odds are perhaps 5% at MIT, CalTech, and Stanford. Competition for internationals is THAT brutal.

However, you need to build your college list “from the ground up”.
Let us take for a fact that you’ll score 2100+: there are plenty of colleges where you can get scholarships and Honors College.
However, UCs aren’t among them.

For all internationals, a key question is: how much can your parents afford per year?

Once you’ve answered this question, we’ll be able to suggest many universities.

@Jr12317 I haven’t taken SAT subject tests yet (I’ll take them next year). I will probably do Math II, Physics, Chemistry and Spanish(?).

Yeah, you need to see which tests you need to take for those schools. Best of luck!

You won’t need more than 3 subject tests. Will you need to take the TOEFL? Consider also:

Carnegie Mellon
Georgia tech
Purdue
U.illinois Urbana
Harvey mudd
Lehigh

A private US university is going to cost 60k/year plus travel. A public university is going to cost 45 - 50k/year. Only the very top, wealthiest U.S. colleges are going to award financial aid to an international student

@MYOS1634 my parents would pay full tuition for any prestigious university in the US.

If your parents can pay ANYTHING… Then go to NYU. Its the dream for anyone who can afford it and its not too competitive.

Nice, just work hard on the SAT. Go to the place that will make you happy.

A problem is what they consider prestigious may not be what Americans consider “best” and what may be best for you. For example, many Asian parents would rank Purdue above HarveyMudd or Olin, which would be seriously questioned by most Americans in the know. Would your parents pay for what is prestigious in the us or only a list they’ve drafted and doesn’t factor in fit or quality? Would they consider the colleges cited above as prestigious, or Swarthmore? Can you freely draft your list? Do they accept excellent honors colleges?
