What schools should I look at? NJ Resident, 92 UW GPA, 1280 SA, undecided major, maybe public health or political science

There is no school that would advertise “only” $100,000 of debt.

FYI Barnard is over $90,000 a year if you do not qualify for FA.

Okay so then I think it was 100k worth of financial aid

Oh I see.

If my parents opt to pay for it, I’m in no way shape or form responsible for the debt? Could I also not do a work study or something?

The Agnes Scott $100K Promise is our affordability promise to all new undergraduate students who are admitted to Agnes Scott in Fall 2024 . If you are admitted to Agnes Scott for Fall 2024, you will receive at least a $25,000 renewable merit-based scholarship annually.

Is this a lot or no, are they twisting the truth

That’s this fall. No way to predict if that will continue.

Federal work study is only awarded to students with financial need. But you could get a regular job!

Is this considered half off of college?

You would be responsible for any federal student loans that you take. Your parents can always opt to pay if for you, but it is your loan.

I genuinely didn’t know that. Thanks for the heads up. I’ll probs find a grocery store so I can get cheaper food or clothes or smth

What…

Can colleges force you to take loans? I know some schools are no loan

The federally funded Direct Loan is in the student name only.

Freshman $5500
Sophomore $6500
Junior $7500
Senior $7500

No one can force anyone to take loans. However, you can’t register for classes unless your bill is paid.

You cannot be forced to take out a loan.

FYI: Agnes Scott is between $65,000 and $70,000 a year, depending on whether you need health insurance, etc. They are promising $25,000 in merit which brings the cost down.

The campus is gorgeous, for sure!

I’m a Scripps parent (my mysterious profile pic is a mashup of the Scripps and Rice logos, lol), so happy to answer any questions about the school by PM if you’re considering it. It doesn’t have the urban access that the Atlanta schools have - it’s very sleepy-suburban, and a long train ride into the downtown part of LA. The consortium opportunities are amazing and the campus is lovely. LGBTQ+ friendly for sure, and fairly diverse. (Black representation is a lot stronger at Pomona than at Scripps itself, but the consortium overall has a lot of diversity.) Whether it ticks the right boxes for you, I’m not sure, or I would have been suggesting it more strongly… but if you look closely and are feeling fit, and Mom doesn’t lose her mind at the distance, it could be one to consider!

Agnes Scott has ED1, and EA1/EA1, but not ED2.

The $25,000 award at Agnes Scott is about 1/2 the tuition. But you need to add in the other costs to attend as listed above

Add in personal expenses and books and travel…not included there.

If it doesn’t have 2 why does it have a 1

They lie :pensive:.

Also I’m assuming I don’t have demonstrated need?? I’m not sure. So would it be unlikely I’d get more?

Never mind, I duplicated Thumper’s post

They don’t necessarily call it ED1 - I’m just saying they only have the early ED cycle.
