It looks like you qualify for merit at Hofstra, but I don’t know if it is automatically given.
Some schools offer merit to everybody who meets certain criteria.

Ohhh okay. I didn’t know that. Would honors college also guarantee merit or are my stats not strong enough for that?
I looked at the website briefly and could not find info about qualifying for the honors college. It might be there, but I didn’t see it.
@rosechild could you please please stop using text abbreviations?
Where am I using them?
No.
Not necessarily.
And keep in mind that merit can range from a couple of thousand dollars a year to half tuition to full tuition to a “full ride” ( tuition plus room and board). Room and board often runs around 15-18k a year, depending on the college.
And was mentioned above, merit scholarships are almost always offered by “less prestigious” colleges to stronger students than would normally choose that school . These less prestigious schools are wooing stronger students to attend their institutions. That’s why you will find much more merit at your safeties than at your reaches.
And some colleges do offer automatic merit to everyone who meets certain GPA (and maybe SAT) benchmarks. You can google college automatic merit to learn more.
So yes, that looks promising for in-state tuition! Pitt keeps getting stingier with merit, so you might not get a further discount beyond in-state rates, but even that is pretty good - it would take a lot of merit at most other schools you’re looking at, to get down to Pitt’s in-state price. Do this application as soon as it opens, in August. This maximizes your chances of both acceptance and merit, and also, you could have an acceptance in hand within a month or two, which could take a lot of stress off the rest of the process.
UNC Asheville and UNC Greensboro do offer merit, but it is unclear to me if it is offered to OOS students.
Pitt is a great school!!
Honor college class sizes are smaller right? I genuinely think I’d flunk out if I was in a lecture with 100 people unless it was like a self paced online college class
That’s the only way I think I could go somewhere like Pitt or Penn State
Is merit normally an instate thing only?
I’ll check this out I appreciate it
I don’t know how these two schools award merit money.
I think Pitt isn’t a safety. Is that what you are thinking?
I’m just trying to figure out where I’m good enough for. I don’t even know.
A lot of my friends got into Pitt but they also go to magnet schools
IMO Pitt is not a safety.
Should I get rid of it then
There is no harm in applying as long as you know it is not a safety.
Why would I apply and then struggle if it’s not a back up though
I genuinely don’t think I can handle huge class sizes and schools with like 20k+ people
I want something 2000 (my high schools size)-10k people
Unless it’s part of a consortium then may be smaller
