What schools should I look at? NJ Resident, 92 UW GPA, 1280 SA, undecided major, maybe public health or political science

I wanted to clarify a couple of things for the OP: First, summer start students generally don’t get an earlier answer than any others. Also, Penn State has two rolling admission deadlines and one EA deadline. Apply EA! It has the earliest guaranteed decision date. If you apply rolling, even in August, you are not guaranteed (and likely will not receiveI) an answer earlier than the EA applicants.

You would likely not automatically be considered in state, but because you have a biological parent living in Pennsylvania, the FAQs indicate that you could qualify though may have to submit a residency appeal.

Tysm! I’ll look into those. Penn state is non binding so I think I can also apply to a binding school along with it?? I’m not sure. I’ll figure out exactly what I wanna do when the years over

Yes. If you apply Aug-Oct you’re in the 1st batch considered by Admissions and hear by Dec 24 but it’s not binding, you can apply to as many EA schools as you wish - you can do the same at Stockton,TCNJ, UConn, and you CAN apply ED elsewhere.
Only ED is binding. There’s ED1 (you promise to go if they admit you and it’s affordable, deadline Nov 1 or Nov 15) and ED2 (same deal but deadline Jan 1 or 15.). It means you can APPLY to as many EA schools as you wish (unless REA/SCEA which your schools don’t offer) along with one ED.

Wait, I’ll do this then. I think I wanna do ED2 to smith if I can get my test scores up. If not, I dunno

Jesuits tend to be more about social service than about pushing a religion. I live near a Jesuit college, and it is actively welcoming toward the LGBTQ community. You might want to read more about Marquette’s services and position:

Have you considered nursing? You could work with kids and eventually apply to be a nurse anesthetist. The cc’s in south Jersey are really good choices because they are aligned with Rowan and it’s clear how the classes will transfer in. If you fear being cut off financially you might look into options you can do on your own. The NJ stars would cover the 2 year RN program and I think it covers the 3rd year at cc if it’s required for the program like the 3+1 RN-BSN program. If you took the CNA (certified nurse assistant) course during the summer you could potentially get a job to help pay for the miscellaneous costs while getting experience. Once you’re financially independent you can move anywhere you want. RNs are in demand everywhere. There’s also nuclear medicine tech, ultrasound tech, radiology tech that are 2 year programs and highly employable. I’m in south Jersey and work in healthcare in pediatrics specifically. Many of my coworkers and husband have gone that route.

Other options would be to search for a college that really really wants you to attend and will give you money to go. Unfortunately most of these are in the south like UofLouisiana Lafayette. I know you said no Lancaster but a school like Elizabethtown would really want you to attend and has competitive full ride Stamps scholarships.

Isn’t nursing like a lot of physical labor? I’m athletic but I don’t want to have to be lifting other people on the daily. Nurse anesthetist maybe or like a pediatric one.

I’ll probably do that program or smth worst comes to worse. Thanks

Nursing can be very physical, CNA work definitely is. The great thing about having an BSN is the options for employment. You can work for insurance companies, public health agencies, corporations hire nurses for occupational health, school nurse etc. Anesthesiologists have a physical job as well. It can be grueling to be in the OR for long periods of time constantly monitoring patients. If you completed the 2 year RN program and worked in a typical bedside nurse while finishing the BSN you’d be pretty young still. You could move on from there. Ultrasound and nuclear medicine is less physical

Physical as in flipping patients? Ik they do for checking if spinal cord is in tact or wtv. I mean physical like lifting people mostly

I’ll do this if everything else doesn’t work out

Nursing is a tough career path. While it has flexibility, is in demand, can be lucrative etc…it is not something to go into unless you enjoy the work…imo. For those who enjoy it, it is a great profession!

Becoming a nurse anesthetist is not something you do if other things do not work out. It is an advanced degree that is very competitive. I also assume that work experience is required.

OT is great, nursing, SLP, etc…if you like the coursework and actual day to day work. Same for the other paths mentioned above (ultrasound tech etc).

Please stop using this abbreviation. Every time I see it, I have no idea what you mean.

If you apply either ED or ED2 anywhere then you have already decided that you will go there if you are admitted.

I am generally not a big fan or ED unless you are sure that a school is your first choice and you are sure that you can afford to attend. If you do not apply ED anywhere, then you get to compare multiple offers (including knowing the financial details) before you decide where to go.

EA is of course very different. Getting some acceptances early can reduce the stress of senior year.

Here are some stats from Smith’s XC team: 2023 Smith XC Results 9.9 Final (PDF) - Smith College Athletics It doesn’t look as if you’re too fast for DIII… but a coach endorsement could turn a reach D3 school like Smith into an ED slam-dunk. Fill out their recruiting form to get on their radar: Recruiting Form

Spelman also has DIII XC. So do Emory, Agnes Scott, Rochester, and Ithaca, among many others. Each will have a recruiting form that you can fill out, on their athletics website.

I mean it has distance, good programs, and is as competitive as I’m willing to go. According to my friend that’s there it isn’t cut throat. She loves it and I think I will too. I’ll know more by that point.

Ive been slacking in terms of running as I did not really care. I think if I put in the work I could definitely be faster. In freshman year I went from close to 30 minutes to 21 as it was my first time running cross country. I know someone who went D1 running for (not Émory I’m sorry it was just down south. He ran like an 15:30 5k)and he gave me advice and a workout plan. I also looked at runcruit and some of my friends run their recruiting time.
I think it’s up to track and cross country. He said the fall of senior year is still taken into account for cross country.

I will check the others out.

Rutgers NB is very competitive this year. With 40% more applications, many got waitlisted or pushed to Newark or Camden. Rutgers Honor College is probably more competitive than an Ivy. Ranking wise, it ranks at #40 in US this year. My son applied this year. His weighted GPA is 4.2. He got in SAS and SEBS at Rutgers NB but got waitlisted for Pharmacy. Few of his Asian friends at school got waitlisted for business and engineering at Rutgers NB this year. Not sure why your mom thinks Rutgers is easy to get in. Maybe she is thinking about Rutgers Camden? If she only looks at acceptance rate, wait the new number after this year. It will go down… a lot!

Okay, I’ll check back in like May. We’ve been to the camden campus (for my brothers music) and she knows the distinction. I genuinely do not know why her personal grudges matter. If I see someone from the area she has beef with, I’ll live (I think that’s also why she’s against Montclair). I don’t know how to explain it but my dad’s part of this weird church that have locations all over but especially concentrated there. I think if I tell her that it’s more competitive than some ivies she’ll change her mind. At the end of the day, she won’t force me to do anything if she gives up on me, except maybe like a woman’s college.
