What schools should I look into?

I’m a white male living in the suburbs of Detroit.

My parents are divorced, and I live exclusively off child support checks from my father, whose income is >$100,000.

My GPA: 3.6~ unweighted. Class rank is 120/533 (top 25%)

Explanation: I attend a normal public highschool for half of the day, where I take my english, language, and social science courses. The other half of the day: I attend a math magnet school where I take my math, science, and computer courses. The students at the magnet school are composed of the best in the district (roughly the top 60 students in each grade, across 4 high schools, so about 60 of 2300-ish students per grade level)
Thus, the competition at the magnet school is extreme (to say the least–nearly everyone who attends has been accepted into UofM, and some students over the school’s eight year history have been accepted into places like MIT, CalTech, Princeton, etc.) and the grades carry over to the normal highschool GPA’s. (receiving no weight)
For these reasons, my relatively low GPA may be a little misleading.

In addition to the advanced courses at the magnet school, I take all advanced english and history courses as well.

I still have one more semester of grades to add to my current GPA too. I’ve been doing much better so I may end up with a 3.7-ish at the end of my junior year.

ACT: I took it last year as a sophomore just to try it out. I ended up getting a 32. I retook it yesterday and I think I may end up in the 34-35 range.

SAT: I haven’t taken it yet. I plan to take it next month. If its any help, I was in the 94th percentile for the PSAT.

SAT II: I haven’t taken any of these. Don’t plan to. Should I?

Activities:
Quizbowl team member.

Programmer on the Thunder Chickens Robotics Club. (Part of http://www.usfirst.org/</a>) Our team is one of the most respected in the country, and we’ve won countless regional and national awards.

Attended the Operation Bently Program (Government leadership program that accepts 100 of the best Michigan highschool students each year)

Interests:
I really want to go into politics someday. Therefore, I’m really interested in getting into the best law school I can. My undergraduate degree would probably be in pre-law/political science/economics.

The obvious is UofM, of which I think I can get into. I’m also interested in UofChicago, not so sure about that one.

Things that stand out about me:

I live exclusively off child support payments because I live with my mother, and she can’t work. Two of my brothers are severely handicapped, and require constant care.

As a sophomore, I lost 100 lbs in less than a year.

What other colleges should I look into?

I think you could get into many of the top schools in the country with a 34 or 35 on the ACT. No offense but why did you include that you lost 100lbs in less than a year?

I think it stands out. I’ve been told by some teachers that it would make for a good essay. Shows my drive and such, etc.

Just out of curiosity, what suburb of Detroit do you live in?

I’m not really in the suburbs… but I’m kinda close. (Monroe)
